What do you think?
I like it more than that senile guy sniffing everything.
I know a lot of people here and china look down on humanities/social science major but in my opinion it's not healthy in general. Humanity/Social Science is useful in some area. A good example is related to media/propaganda.. Chinese propaganda is clumsy in general because the government is hiring wrong guy in charge. In general, nobody hired a STEM graduate for marketing purpose. Like, the Taliban understand how to use meme while i doubt the older guy in propaganda department understand meme and how to use it.That is the problem: They believe.
These humanities graduates in D.C. have a vision of reality probably more grounded in 70s and 80s cold war fantasy novels than in the real complexity of the modern world.
Iraq was supposed to be a few months war and ended up being the biggest foreign policy disaster ever with consequences that will last decades.
Tell that to US politicians.
They Chinese are clearly playing but their own way.
And just like famous Anglo American gratefulness to China for bailing them out of the 08 GFC, the Anglo Americans repaid the Chinese with the pivot to Asia. You ought to know that American victory in the cold war was not won by America and its western allies alone. There's a growing body of evidence that's been widely known in the academic, government officials in both defense and state in the U.S. retired and currently serving that China/PRC played a very important role in bringing down the former Soviet Union.
From China's border and ideological war with the Soviet Union in it's periphery, namely with Vietnam, Africa, Afghanistan, Pakistan. CHINA bled the USSR by overstretching thereby overcomitting its blood and treasure from East and West, ensuring the economic demise of then USSR.
Name, one country or at least actions both current and retired within China's leadership to even support your fears that you are beginning to concern yourself with? How has China handled its long standing relationship with the continent of Africa? Has China become more demanding? Has it demanded any and or some of the African leaders to be replaced when it ran afoul with the Chinese interest?
Aren't you being a little too dramatic if not, a bit too dramatic with that misguided and unfounded fears of yours?
You can’t teach “soft power” any more than you can teach someone how to “be cool”, and China already has a mature record of the humanities ie Chinese philosophy and Chinese culture and modern data analysis.I know a lot of people here and china look down on humanities/social science major but in my opinion it's not healthy in general. There's plenty of humanities and social science majors in China:
English (foreign language) is #2. Law is #4. Chinese literature is #6. Chinese literature used to be higher.
China has 3000 years of art, culture and literature, and 2500 of it were pretty good (late Shang early Zhou not so good).
In the US the top majors are neither physical sciences/engineering nor humanities/social sciences. In particular, few study either English literature nor foreign languages.
They're business, health and psychology.

majoring in humanities or social science is how you min-max your opportunity to become homeless and/or selling yourself as a prostitute. either the sexual or propaganda kind.I know a lot of people here and china look down on humanities/social science major but in my opinion it's not healthy in general.
