Aside from tariffs, Trump now seems to have a knee jerk visceral reaction to oppose anything environmentally friendly as he now associates anything green to left wing liberals. He has talked about rolling back environmental regulations, EV and battery subsidies, and fuel standards. Thing is...US businesses don't really want him to do that as it would make their products uncompetitive around the world. So while the rest of the world is trying to prepare for or positioning to lead the new world of green tech because it also makes business sense, a Trump administration would be trying to turn back the clock and reverse at full speed back to the 1950's.
I don't think China was ever going for green tech because of climate change either. It's just a cover to bring about an "integrated electric society". No more fuel, electricity directly transformed to movement/logistics.

China is the world's largest energy and energy tech/storage producer. A society where electricity is the new oil makes China the new Saudi Arabia.

And even if no one else is as highly enthusiastic or have the ability to fund a whole society transformation to electric, completing the transformation still has huge geopolitical implications for China.

Current China is oil sufficient with minor rationing using land routes from allies. But that's with nearly a billion cars/trucks wasting oil. When all of those are electric, every bit of oil China produces or imports would go solely to aerospace and navy, meaning China can through strategic petroleum reserve alone be near indefinitely sufficient.

Seems like he's talking about semiconductors

You know, I actually think this could be China's strategy, to get ready to invade Taiwan or destroy TSMC factories.

Let's play Sun Tzu.

What is important to President Trump?

A lot of things, but two things top the list, and that is President Trump cares about the stock market, and President Trump cares about the white blue collar worker.

Without chips, the economy will tank, causing the stock market to fall; and factory production will stop, leading to layoffs.

China will get far more aggressive these coming years in regards of how to handle Taiwan, especially they do not like the current guy there.

In the end, they do not care about Taiwan, compared to the stock market, ie their own money, or their factories, ie their jobs.

So we see how aggressive both sides will be.

We still don't have a barf react.

We need that and a face palm emoji.

I think the policy towards China is bi-partisan, doesnt matter if its dems or reps. Biden continued and expanded all of trumps policy. Decision has been made to make China the next generational villain. Doesnt matter who is running the circus.
^^^ This! Too many people believe there will be a change towards a more peaceful foreign policy. I'm expecting the SCS to heat up and the Philippines would likely be the next candidate to follow Ukraine's footsteps. I don't expect anything significant will happen on the Korean peninsula due to Russia's backing. And then there's South East Asia with some low intensity destabilization efforts (IIRC).

But, the greatest focus will be against Iran because of Trump's power base. Netanyahu needs to hold out a bit longer until Jan 2025. I'm not sure if there is enough time for Israel as things aren't looking great for them.

I don't get the obsession with oil lmfao! The US is already the worlds largest oil and natural gas producer! What more do you want?
Petrodollar. The power of the US dollar is coming to an end but it'll take some time for it to happen.

I believe Trump truly doesn't want war with China and wants a cooperative economic relationship, but the issue is that he was dragged down the wrong path by his appointees the last term.

The problem with American politics is that ALL the high up career politicians and advisors like Mike Pompeo are militaristic bastards hellbent on pursuing American imperialism using war and subversion.

Trump can't find a single person that wants peace. Think about it, there's a reason he was the only President in recent history that didn't preside over a war. The entire American political system is built on creating war and imperialism, Trump is an outsider to this system. If everyone around you tells you to go for a trade war with China, you eventually give in and end up doing it even if you didn't want to.
Not true; Syria, Afghanistan and Ukraine (-ish). The guy almost started one against Iran with the assassination of the Iranian diplomatic envoy to Saudi Arabia. Tehran was smart enough to not take the bait.

Maybe it's far fetched and might sound paranoid but what if this attempt was planned by US deep state to start a manageable low intensity unrest/civil war? Would be the perfect excuse to default on T-bill debt and not lose much reputation while enacting laws to make it a police state with oligopoly economy officially, There are rumours that secret service refused to act when some people in the crowd alerted them of the shooter before it happened.
Rather risky move if true. Just look how much backpeddling after the attempted assassination. The "Get Trump!" idiots didn't realize someone will eventually carry out what they've been advocating for the past several years. It's too early to comment on the USSS. It's either they allowed it to happen or, it's pure incompetence.

The planet can't handle another Cold War, so the sooner these confrontations die down, the better. Unfortunately, the majority still can't grasp the reality of the situation though so we still have witless warmongerer populists in power everywhere.

This is the Hippie in me speaking, but less weapon procurements and more investments in the economy/climate change please.
We can handle another Cold War but, don't expect it to be like the first one. IMHO, we're already in another Cold War.

More on Vance and why he is very bad news times for everyone everywhere in the world.

Below actual results in 2015, 2019 and 2023 when "conservatives" won, defended and lost power against "globalist liberals".
  • PiS (Prawo i Sprawiedliwość, lit. Law and Justice) - the "conservatives"
  • democratic opposition (various parties, forming coalitions against PiS includig other conservative factions) - the "globalist liberals"

According to Vance when 19% of eligible voters gain 51% seats that's democracy but when 40% of eligible voters gain 54% of seats and force accountability on the previous government then that's not democracy.

The political opponents are also arrested on criminal charges relating to misuse of public funds for private gain as well as illegal funding of political campaigns. And those are not some minor incidents. The corruption under the previous government was completely out of control and out of proportion.

Poland had historically very low turnouts in parliamentary elections. From 1991 to 2015 the highest turnout was 52% in 1993 and lowest was 40% in 2005 when the current political system with a dominant duopoly (PiS backed by Republicans and PO/KO backed by Democrats) emerged victorious. The elections in 2019 and 2023 were an anomaly, and in particular in 2023 the participation from the youngest voters was particularly high, higher than some of the other groups.

But that's only half of the problem. Knowing the broader context shows just how dangerous and malicious the "Trumpian" right is in particular and what their tools are.

How did "conservatives" win in 2015? They were assisted by Americans who were in the process of buying out Polish media outlets and also used other assets e.g. Israeli online troll networks and used spolier tactics that were a completely unknown in Polish politics but were a standard play in American FPTP. A soft coup.

Since 2015 (actually earlier) an overt two-pronged assault on Polish media (from the "conservatives" and from American capital) put Poland below US in terms of media freedom indices. Believe or not, thanks to two decades of democratic reform post 1991 and EU requirements Poland in 2014 was ahead of the US and UK in press and media freedom in Reporters Without Borders ranking.

2014: Poland #19, US #46, UK #33
2016: Poland #47, US #41, UK #38
2022: Poland #66, US #42, UK #24

This however is not all. It gets worse. American right expects everyone to adopt their values and give a lot of money to that aim.

Polish "conservatives" won in 2015 and immediately proceeded to copy Republican policies of systemic transformation in a state that is based not on English common law and Westminster system but French post-revolutionary model with Civil law. They started treating Polish constitutional tribunals as if they were American SCOTUS. Except that SCOTUS is for life and interprets constitution while Polish tribunals have term limits, reconcile laws with constitution, and also are by law required to work with the European tribunals since Poland is a member of EU and accepts the common legal framework (acquis communitaire). This created complete legal chaos because what works in American system can never work here because we use completely different rules. Also American system is divived between two interpretations of the constitution. We have no such split in the EU - civil law is a positive law i.e. it always changes and adapts to democratic process. "Literalism" in the EU is completely different than in the US. It means what the law means currently and whether a change is required or not. Not what it is supposed to mean forever.

That was what caused the EU to sanction the "conservatives": the overt and deliberate attempt to destroy the legal system, undermine separation of powers and democratic process. But if you follow "Polish" media or "Polish" internet you may be very confused about it all, because you're already within the American-run Overton window which is how Poland went from #19 to #66.

Another thing which the "conservatives" did to harmonise with their American paymasters' ideology was to ban abortion in case of fetal defect. In Poland, unlike the US, regular abortion was already not legal since 1993 (legal before) They did it by using their illegal tribunals because a regular bill could be too easily overturned.

Finally the "conservatives" also began to normalise an attempt to take Poland out of the EU. For those who are not aware, Poland is one of the most consistently pro-EU countries in the Union. (Interestingly American-controlled media normalised the rhetoric giving it the impression that it's a rational position and forcing politicians to debate insane ideas with pathological liars. This way something that is completely against Poland's national interest is being presented as a valid position, just in case DC needs to use it for leverage).

SR_23.10.24_EU-views_1.png

In spring of 2023 level of support for the EU was at 87% and it has never fallen below 65% no matter how the question is framed for political purposes in other surveys. But there was a time when "Polexit" was openly discussed in public ("conservative" controlled) media and commercial outlets. Insanity!

And that is why 74,58% of eligible voters went to the polls and removed "conservatives" from power. But J.D. Vance doesn't acknowledge that because his side lost and he will do everything to put them back in power as soon as he's VP.

The attitude that they had toward Poland extends to every other country in the world.

Except Poland is a NATO ally and one of the most pro-American societies in Europe, as well as one of the very few countries with a sizeable pro-Trump faction. Even at the current moment with "liberal globalist" government in power Trump and Republicans would have better reception to their interest in Poland than in any other major country in Europe, with the exception of (perhaps) Meloni's Italy.

So if that's how they treat us... just how would they treat everyone else???

And as a closing note - if his wife isn't enough, this was Vance's political advisor for his 2022 run:

I think we will see a large influx of Ethnic Indian Republican politicians/advisors as it seems Republican party provides a larger platform and more established entre for them.

Not just in the Republican Party, but within democrats too, many of them hold senior level positions. I don’t know why Chinese people are less interested in politics or running for office.
