That is an offensive terminology more like Singapore party girl(SPG). Sarong is peranakan identity and coming from stronger economic background they have no reason to consort with white guy But the working class and gold digger do. I have no doubt there is intermarry with the white but in general that is not the case. There is so much intermarry with the other Chinese dialect that the peranakan is about to disappear now in Singapore still strong in Malaysia and Indonesia

Yes not only that he also learn mandarin in his 40's realizing he make mistake not taking Chinese in his youth though his parents recommend a private tutor. All his sibling can read and write Chinese. He also send his kids to Chinese stream education And he refuse to be converted to Christianity. At home he insists to live a Chinese gentlemen making a habit to visit his parents every months no matter how busy he is . He also insists to celebrate Chinese new Year for the family when other sibling long abandoned it. He kept his private life private and hardly talk about himself and his family. But after his death the family agree to talk to peranakan magazine about his life and his family.

A lot of non peranakan Chinese born before the separation between Singapore and Malaysia do have some proficiency of Malay plus a few southern Chinese dialects and of course post industrial anglo saxon.

True, but he was referring to the scholar culture in China. Many scholars lived in the countryside but were experts in Chinese history.
