One origins story for Kolas Yotaka's name is that "Yotaka" is the Japanese word 夜鹰 ("night eagle") which means prostitute in Edo era. Story has it that the Japanese awarded this name to this Koalas person's father, and their family have worn the name proudly since. Kolas Yotaka and her supporters dispute the story, claiming that Yotaka is a bona fide Taiwanese aboriginal name.

There are plenty of Japan simps in DPP. Tsai's father is said to be an aircraft mechanic for the Japanese air force in NE China during the war years. Supposedly many Japanese settlers stayed in Taiwan and adopted Chinese names instead of trying to return home after Japan's defeat. If ever magically Taiwan in its current state achieves formal independence under DPP, next thing they'll do is engineer some kind of commonwealth with Japan.
I guess Chiang Kai Shek's crime is he didn't finish the job while in Taiwan. His half measures is why we have this mess.
