Also for some reason, they even got Liu He's position utterly wrong... since when is he the Vice President of China?
Coming into the 20th Congress my prediction was that although Liu He would have to retire from Party politics as a result of age-limits, he'd succeed Wang Qishan's State position of Vice President of the PRC, which holds no age limits, and Liu would be confirmed to that position this coming March when the new session of the National People's Congress convenes... Chances are they've got Liu's position wrong, but perhaps they may have insider knowledge and Liu is indeed going to be Vice President :p

In the US, we don't want to tell Koreans and Vietnamese they celebrate Chinese New Years so we say Lunar New Years instead, but everyone know it's Chinese origin. How does it work in Australia?
It's more transparently Chinese here compared to the US from what I can see of the US. Local institutes like to take part in it in some capacity to show how inclusive they are. Like this week if you walk into any of the big four bank's branches they will have stacks of empty red packets with rabbits and bank logo printed on them for you to take home if you want some.

I know some of you upon seeing this are going for that "they're trying to make Chinese new year into lunar new year" angle, but hear me out: isn't this soft power?

It's like if the Roman Empire was still around and we make it a law to celebrate Festival of Dies Natalis Solis Invicti. Yeah sure it doesn't have the name Rome in it but who are you fooling? Even in this article itself they make it clear it's Chinese.

Interesting take, but I want to make a quick correction. The reason behind the change to Lunar New Year is because the Koreans and Vietnamese also celebrated it in their own way and felt excluded and glossed over. So they made a pretty vocal protest about it over social media and articles.

This is more a problem amongst English speakers more than anything else; much like how there are so many different terms and therefore connotations for China that the westerner robs himself of insight by not extending himself to learn: 中國, 華夏,etc
In Chinese, Chinese new year is just called the spring festival: 春節 and it would be more accurate for English speakers to call it the Spring Festival.

Trip likely to be in April
Macron needs to act since the Germans stole a march on him with the state visit late last year.
This is how you play the west against each other and away from your walls, as previous imperial dynasties did with barbarian hordes, be it Roman, Byzantine or Chinese. But the Americans really did most of the heavy lifting, in their greed to steal European market share, the rest of Europe had decided enough was enough.

Also, you know inflation is bad when you come across no less than several TikToks about how unaffordable everything is now:

Pompeo believed that Xi was trying to get Trump to fire him — “My Mike, that fucking guy hates you!” the president said after the call — and a few days later, in the Oval Office, Trump told Pompeo that he was “putting us all at risk” by angering Xi, in part because the United States still needed protective health equipment from China.

Stop, for God’s sake!” said the president.
