Russians have some of the smartest people on the planet, but they won't be using that human capital to full capacity anytime soon as long as cronyism and corruption remain endemic issues. Google and Telegram could've been Russian companies, rather than simply being founded by Russian expats. Not to mention, since the war started millions of Russian tech workers have already fled overseas and as long as Russia remains the way it is, they're probably not likely to come back.
They left Russia because they were working for foreign companies and with SWIFT money transfers being blocked they could not continue to operate and get paid without leaving. IT workers who had jobs for Russian companies and clients have remained there for the most part.

Yeah brother, hear what you are saying.

However, I don't really see it happening.

The timing of the trip is telling.

Remember when the Soviets invaded Afghanistan? They choose Christmas Day, because no one would be paying attention. January 1, 2023 is a Sunday, which means January 2 is a holiday. So people too drunk and hungover in America to notice anything happening on the 3rd, which is a work day.

Suppose someone noticed, and wanted to do something to derail the trip.

What can they do? Bring Macros back? But he's right here?!

They cannot bring back the previous guy, who was great, as he hated their guts.

Maybe Aquino is available. Maybe Guaido is available.

Seems to me that the provocations with the spy planes, was just a test for the region. The Americans trying to figure out who is still interested in their stupid games in ASEAN.

Meanwhile, China will try to slam the door shut on their American faces with this President Marcos trip.

It would be like the recent Middle East summit for Xi, just this is part 2.

Haha!

:p
Well we know the American so much that we create a hotline.....lol from this the next step is a code of conduct in SCS. Again the US miscalculate, they think they can achieved easy victory by bully us, then bride us (mostly the oligarch and potential presidential candidate) on the cheap (my god $15 million can't buy you much in this inflation regime) cajole us and lately reminiscent the good old days of brotherhood which for us is nothing BUT blatant exploitation. So yes, the little brown brother is wiser now cause we have an Alternative with NO historical baggage.;)

MANILA -- The Philippines will open a new line of communication with China to prevent an accidental escalation of maritime tensions, Manila said Thursday ahead of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s state visit to Beijing next week.
The aim is to avoid miscalculations and miscommunication in the West Philippine Sea, a Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs official said, using his country's term for the part of the South China Sea that it claims in a long-running dispute with Beijing.
The Philippine foreign secretary and the Chinese foreign minister are expected to sign an agreement on the channel for dialogue during Marcos' visit.
Details were not disclosed, but the official said the agreement would enable direct communication at all levels of their foreign ministries.
The Philippines has accused China of harassing its ships around the Spratly Islands, which Beijing claims as the Nansha Islands. Manila has repeatedly lodged diplomatic protests over such moves.
The South China Sea tensions are expected to be discussed when Marcos meets with Chinese President Xi Jinping during his visit, slated for Tuesday to Thursday.
Marcos is seen as shifting from the more conciliatory China stance of predecessor Rodrigo Duterte.

Marcos will continue to defend Philippine sovereignty in the West Philippine Sea when meeting with the Chinese leaders, the Department of Foreign Affairs official said.
The Philippines and China are expected to sign more than 10 agreements during the visit, in such areas as trade and investment, energy, and infrastructure.

This is not correct way at look at things. Telegram better stayed around UAE. That broaden its appeal.
That's a good thing in your view? That a Russian entrepeneur had to start one of the biggest social media apps in the world outside of Russia, in order for it to be succesful? You might have your own way of looking at things, but the CEO of Telegram was pretty clearcut that he felt Russia is no place for starting a business.

And frankly, I have no idea what point you are making with the rest of your post.

And? As long as the current policies in Russia continue, there's unlikely to be a normalization of relations with the West and thus point still stands that those tech workers will unlikely come back. As for what's left in Russia, all they have left to work with is the Russian market and a few ex-Soviet states. Which is pretty tiny and unlikely to give further rise to globally competitive companies.

China's position on Ukraine conflict is very prudent. China doesn't care what US thinks but it does care about Europe despite their hostility. Remember, EU still has leverage such as Dutch's resistance to US's proposal to ban ASML DUV, Scholz visiting Beijing and making a statement against decoupling, Macron cooperating with China on BRI in Africa, etc. The relationship with EU is complicated but is worth saving IMO, especially since there is a growing rift between US and EU taking place over thinks like LNG costs and Biden's IRA.
So China will continue normal relations with Russia such as increased economic integration and military cooperation in the Pacific but won't cross EU's red lines (circumventing sanctions and sending Russia military aid).

he can hire all what ever he can find in UAE.
when Tesla , FB and others got too big in California drove out every thing else and made California budget has too depend over increasing salaries of these tech workers (this itself a problem as it need stock market up) . you end up with California state that has half the export of Texas but GDP the size of Germany. where would Tesla be without Grohmann Engineering, Panasonic, LG, Samsung, Continental, Michelin etc. The second point is too complex it takes time to understand it.
Wouldnt it be nice some thing bigger than A380 is created.
