Lol. Who is this guy..

A glorified history professor. No economist, no (delusional) think-tanker, no technologist, no politician, no official, no business executive etc.

So they bring a history professor to speak of China when China changes completely every 5 years or so...

This mofo is a Stalin specialist, having written 3 books on Stalin, each book the size of a brick. I wouldn't trust this cunt on modern Russia let alone China.

Nepal police fire tear gas to disperse protest over US aid grant

The police action comes as the $500m US grant bill tabled in parliament, which critics say undermines Nepali sovereignty.

A Nepalese policeman fires tear gas as protesters opposing a proposed U.S. half billion dollars grant for Nepal clash with them as the parliament debates the contentious aid in Kathmandu, Nepal, Sunday, Feb. 20, 2022.

Opposition to the grant comes mainly from two Communist parties that are part of the coalition government who claim the conditions in the grant agreement will prevail over Nepal's laws and threaten the country's sovereignty.

Nepal police fired rubber bullets and tear gas on Sunday as hundreds protested against a $500m US aid grant that has divided the ruling coalition headed by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba of the Nepali Congress party.

The Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) pact signed in 2017 faces opposition mainly from two of the Communist parties that are part of the coalition government.

Critics of the pact claim the conditions in the grant agreement will prevail over Nepal’s laws and threaten the country’s sovereignty. They say it is part of Washington’s Indo-Pacific strategy, which has military components that could bring American soldiers to Nepal.

Hundreds of protesters tried to push through barbed wire barricades and pelted riot police with stones. Police beat them with bamboo batons, fired tear gas and water canons, leaving injured on both sides.

“Although they agreed to present the agreement in the parliament, it’s still not clear whether all coalition partners will cast their vote in favour… Our efforts will continue to convince them,” Prakash Sharan Mahat, spokesperson for the ruling Nepali Congress party, told AFP news agency.

The pact undermines Nepal’s sovereignty

The ruling coalition partners, including Maoist politicians – seen as traditionally close to China – say the pact undermines Nepal’s sovereignty.

Inside Parliament, government minister Gyanendra Bahadur Karki presented the grant proposal while several lawmakers chanted slogans opposing the measure.

A thick line of security personnel blocked the protesting members from approaching the minister. The debate is expected to last several days before the grant agreement is put to a vote. The deadline to ratify ends on February 28.

The discussion was originally planned for last Wednesday but disagreements among political parties and clashes with police outside Parliament led to it being postponed.

According to Nepali media, US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu recently held separate telephone conversations with Nepali politicians, urging them to endorse the MCC pact by February 28 or Washington would “review its ties with Nepal”.

Days later Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said such development cooperation should “come with no strings attached”.

“We oppose coercive diplomacy and actions that pursue selfish agendas at the expense of Nepal’s sovereignty and interests,” he told a regular briefing in Beijing.

The MCC, created by the US Congress in 2004, offers large grants to support economic growth and reduce poverty, according to Washington.

Why America will win.

This guy has been writing a three-volume biography of Stalin. Two of them have been published and I bought both of them, but have yet found the time and will to read them (they are thick books). I have since listened several of his speech and wow, the guy is so biased against the Soviet Union and communism, bordering on hatred. Now it's even unlikely I will read his tomes on Stalin.

I have several Stalin biographies by very different authors, including by Russian authors, just to compare different opinions. The comprehensiveness of his volumes impressed me back when the first volume came out (published in 2014) and it appeared he had done extensive research into the Soviet archives. I didn't know him all that well and so have tried to read some commentaries on the books and his speeches to weight whether I wanted to make the investment into reading the books. I don't mind authors having their own opinions on the characters they write about, but boy, this guy is so ideological I can't even finish listening to his talk.

The title should be complementary instead of unequal. It is unbelievable that SCMP is owned by Alibaba.

Russia majority sell raw materials for export but still create 2nd or 3rd largest trade surplus in world with little debt.
there is no way Russia can become part of global value chain like Asia or Germany. it started de-globalization much earlier. they looking for complete solution with more control.
it has climate and money now that is expanding the size of cities faster than rest of Europe with its own unique characteristics. that influence the tech development.

The long shadow of communal violence in Western civilization, seeded in Christianity since its birth from late antiquity, is all too visible and obvious even with a cursory look. Each sect claims absolute truth about their interpretation of belief and kills and persecutes among themselves to mind mumbling proportions to prove their point. This history guy has a glint of religious zeal in his look and demeanor that would easily make him a medieval monk had he worn a different attire in the form of a cape and a robe. It's not a cold war mentality, it's sectarian Christian mentality that came down straight from English speaking protestants who ran away from old world persecution and killings.

That's one thing China would benefit to learn from it.
