D-day was across 30 km of shallow water they had 100% absolute control over, with air supremacy, against Germany fighting a 2 front war and they still lost 10k.
He is saying its equal to size of D-day invasion of WWII, but maybe hinting at US create distraction in Ukraine, then during Winter Games, America surprise attack China by knocking out Chinese tech centers, tech supply chains with massive surgical strikes right off its coasts, betting on its lower threshold than China escalating to nuclear retaliation of American cities
It's not like the German back then had any satellite intel, laser guided missiles and rockets. The US thinking of doing a D-day on China's coast will end up with ground beef American style.

It's not really a space race if all Bezos is doing is a bunch of suborbital flights (ok, it's not nearly as irrelevant as Branson's outift) while Musk is flying super rockets.
Such attack should be met with immediate nuclear strikes on all major American cities.

In any shooting war between the USA and China/Russia the USA has a huge disadvantage by sporting the best part of its military offshore, outside of the CONUS, stationed on the soil of foreign nations.
It means example China has the option to attack the USA military in Japan example, and at the same time demand unconditional surrender from Japan , without triggering the treshold a full blown nuclear war.
In practice, in 24 hours of an attack by the USA miltiary Taiwan, South Korea and Japan would become a China occupied and controlled country, with hosting few nuclear crater on the places of previous USA bases.
I just read about four battle groups... but that guy is an ex-ONI officer so he surely knows better, even those not in the news.
