Stavridis’ scenario is not far-fetched. Edward Luttwak, an estimable historian and military consultant, tweeted on January 19: “Every day I read fanciful China war scenarios. Some ignore the nuclear inhibition that protects vulnerable US aircraft carriers.”

By “nuclear inhibition,” Luttwak apparently means that if China were to sink a US fleet carrier, the United States would retaliate with nuclear weapons. Luttwak wrote a book-length study on China in 2013 for the Pentagon’s Office of Net Assessment, for which I also consulted at the time.

The madness of Luttwak’s logic requires a brief pause and a deep breath to take in: He concedes that China has the capacity to destroy American ships, including carriers, with its massed missile forces, but asserts that China would refrain to do so out of fear of American nuclear retaliation.

An old video from one of America's famous/infamous 4 star officer, Gen. Wesley K. Clark (ret.) Former SACEUR/NATO. Here he discussed at great length the still ongoing Ukraine conflict, the upcoming challenge with China (he placed China as one of the 5 key strategic challenge facing America on his last book "Don't Wait for the Next War")

I thought of posting here for everyone to take a listen to his presentation and thoughts and how he differs from his contemporaries or he sounds your prototypical American Foreign policy blob.

America thinks its carriers are like city centers, DF17 strike a carrier and a Chinese city gets nuked...

But China has hypersonic missiles that are nuclear capable and has been proven to circle the globe undetected before striking with its full payload. The only reason that China refrains from sending these ships to hell is because China doesn’t make the first movie, just like all the other wars that China has fought and driven the invaders away. Also to note is that it’s China and Russia that will turn the USA into a nuclear waste land, not China by themselves and this will only occur as a last resort. That man is clear trying to hype the west itself up as a form of comfort but I reckon China has already got counter measures of Usa nukes that they have never told the USA.
I have heard loads to prophecies indicating that the USA will be hit by multiple nukes but I have never heard of any hitting China or Russia. I am interested to see where this goes but that man is clearly living in the last century

Nuclear inhibition is a two-way street. US is inhibited by the prospect of Chinese nuclear retailiation. In Game Theory, that means the nuclear inhibition cancels out, and the conflict stays conventional.

The report reads as some sort of Sci-Fi comfort story so Americans can sleep at night. It doesn't even take into account basics like China retailiation with nukes.

Both Japan and SK became more anti-China after China became more and more wealthy. Same thing can be said about HK and Taiwan. It is the fear that East Asia restored back to pre-imperial years when China is dominated power. Until China leapfrogged them in every area, they would continue bitching about China. Some day, they would accept the fact that China is the dominated power and tried to curry favor with China. Until then, they would complain and try to demonize China to soothe their inferior complex.

people usually call this symptom Stockholm Syndrome, inferior complex, which is not very accurate. I call this "the proud whore complex". the whore has no shame of being a whore, she actually is proud of being a whore. the whores see themselves as the beneficiaries of the rule of the West, and they want the world to stay that way.

Chinese people are sensitive, but care what a whore think of you is probably too much. just ignore all kinds of survey on whoring.

Like @Equation mentioned, you have to look at who did the survey. Surveys are not published to inform the public, they are published in order to influence public opinion.
