The us is unlikely going to reform its immigration system to allow more Chinese students to study STEM
Thoughts, people? Did the head of CCP Central Talent Work Coördination Group really say those words? Braindrain should be stemmed. Anyone has any numbers about the braindrain we are suffering?
More plausible scenario is when the republicans takes over next election there will be blanket ban on all Chinese studying STEM
I think these popularist scaremongering policy to get votes usually backfire. The price for getting top talent to stay also include the risk that the top talent will return home. This is the same for anyone whose country is not in some crisis.
I don't think anyone in the world says that US isn't benefitting from "brain-draining" the rest of the world

After all China's greatest strength is it's massive numbers of annual STEM graduates

Agreed, but when republicans takes over (which is increasingly likely) you can expect common sense to be out of the window, especially with guys like tom cotton or comrade trump again lol

Sounds like abject exaggeration. Concerned? Certainly. Fear? Terrified? ROFL!
Besides, considering there is an on-going witch-hunt of Chinese academics in the US, the Chinese side is probably laughing their heads off.
There would be no point in starting at all then because from under grad to post grad with honours maybe 4yrs for the very brightest who can get fast tracked through, and 5-6yrs for the rest.
Only blanket ban for STEM education... I fully expect the Republicans to bring back the camps
