He grew up or rather witnessed the excess of the cultural revolution and became convinced that the party is the enemy of the country and must be excised from it. He left China in his 20's and went to the U.S. to pursue higher education and the rest is history. His understanding of the current China is heavily influenced and underpinned by the negative experience he saw first hand and experience which explains his very American centric point of view which is actually doing harm to the country he's serving (U.S.) and is actually helping the very country he's trying to destroy (China).

The same experience of many chinese who experienced the same during and after the Century of Humiliation, the Opium wars, etc and yet why is it that under the same conditions you had a thousand flowers that bloomed such as Xi himself who was sent to the countryside whereas a privileged elite like this traitor left the country and became an absolute hanjian?
It simply comes down to moral integrity; traitors have no moral integrity, least of who hanjian who willingly aid and abet an obvious civilisational 'whole of society' threat in the anglos.

The difference between the two eras is that the scholarly people still received a cultural and historical education during the Century of Humiliation while the cultural education during the Cultural Revolution was basically destroyed. That is one of the main reasons why many great leaders existed during the Warlord and ROC eras while hanjians are running amok today. Miles Yu has no cultural education along with many (not all) people born in the 50’s, 60’s, and even 70’s. As a result, their analytical skills are rudimentary.

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A Chinese military aircraft sent to intercept a U.S. spy plane nearing China's airspace on Monday morning (Nov. 8) reportedly breached Taiwan's air defense identification zone (ADIZ).

At 11:30 a.m. on Monday morning, a U.S. Air Force E-8C neared China's ADIZ, prompting the People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) to broadcast radio warnings to the spy plane in Chinese and English, according to the Facebook page of Taiwanese aircraft spotter "Southwest Airspace of TW" (台灣西南空域). The PLAAF message stated, "This is the Chinese Air Force, you are approaching Chinese airspace and affecting flight safety. Leave immediately. Leave immediately or you will be intercepted."

It’s the same as how many racists have just one black friend. Mostly to use as a shield against the inevitable charges of racism. It’s no accident that ‘but I have a black friend’ is such a running joke/meme.
