Then it would make China look bad. China is not a responsible superpower, but bad in its own way. Bad in a very bad way, because the people of those countries lose out to corruption. What if after a change of government, either through revolution or the hustings, China becomes their pariah?

China is not a force for good many thought it would be.
It's up to the people of those country to change their governance. Nothing China can do about that.
What good does it do to these same people if China cannot participate in helping them develop a better economy?

What China should, as in my reply to @solarz
What the Chinese government should do is to ban bribery by the SOEs. Win some, lose some. See how much. Modify or abandon strategy if necessary. Corruption is something that is binary. But the Chinese strategy need not be binary until there is a consensus among the African nations to get on board the new way of doing business. We can watch the outcome of the next Sino-African summit as @Overbom has suggested.

You are so funny.

You are the one who because colonialism bred corruption, there

That's a good question. It's not minor. I like to use Argentina as an example. China is becoming a more conspicuous world investor in a fast way. The Third World is looking at China as an alternative superpower. As someone wrote here, China has to be or is a responsible superpower.

Look at our faults before we blame others. If we are part of the problem, we need to deal with ourselves first. What happens over the other side is beyond our control.

But the truth hurts some people.
So let me ask you this then if we say the foreign government required us to pay them some "interest" before we can work on the project or we can screw off and let the Americans do it instead, what would you choose? The legal "corruption" and look bad or simply stick with your principles and leave the country? Either way, the foreign government finds someone who is willing to pay them and the project if we choose not to and there is no proof they will even come close to how we will do it. You forcing your principles and ideals on foreign lands and people is literally imperialism. It's not up to China to tell them how to do things because at the end of the day, China isn't the police nor caretakers of the world.

China's mere existence as a bulwark against white supremacy and ongoing western colonialism means its the greatest good in history.

I don't care how China wins, just that it does. We can do the soul-searching after.

Moral victories are for losers.

Moral victories are for victors. Losers don't win.

Look up my reply to @Dolcevita directly above your post.

More like Win Little Lost Much, your strategy is beyond naive and benefits no one. Who in their right mind goes to other countries and downright forces this stuff? Might as well tell China to stop trading with everyone on this planet if you want to do this.

It may not play out that way going forward. Maybe lose more in the beginning, win more later. China could also push for a better tendering system like elsewhere so that corruption is minimized at least.

That's if they are willing to change. Put this way, look at American companies coming to China to do business, they have to follow our rules because it's our country. What we say goes here, not the Americans nor anyone else and if they disagree with our rules we show them the door. The situation with Africa is literally what we are doing at home but the position is switched. You are forcing yourself onto others who may agree but as we see don't. This will only ruin our relationship with other countries if we can't even show some decent respect to their sovereignty.
