I don't know. Recent reports of TikTok censorship leads me to believe some backroom deals may have been struck. It would be incredibly dissappointing if China succumbs to pressure and sells. Tremendous loss of face as well.

Bytedance isn’t allowed to acquire any US company with their money so what are they gonna do with it, give the CEO a super payday? China has a trillion surplus because they can’t buy anything they want anymore, from the US or anywhere else in the west because of natsec. Algorithm was never the issue to them. It is the brand name because let’s be honest. They will put their own algorithm in and most people don’t care and won’t really notice. Except the New US TikTok is going to be pushing western propaganda narratives with CIA NGOs given priorities to fill user feeds.
The China Hawks are basically doing what the Biden Hawks were doing with Russia. They are attempting to isolate China as part of their preparations to fight China. The only reason why the China hawks are offering an olive branch right now is because they are scrambling to rebuild before directly fighting China. On the other hand, the Biden Hawk would be immediately antagonizing China/Iran/Russia right off the bad had they won.
This might just be for the people setting up the factory. Kind of similar to how Brazil's local politicians were smearing BYD's labour rights in setting up the factory in order to get BYD to hire local construction contractors.
