No worries, China is not Iran, where all you have to do is to kill the top one or two researchers.

Yes, some of the doctors may well be in the pockets of the pharmaceutical companies. The fact that they had to get a Western propaganda outlet such as the New York Times involved reeks of desperation.

The Economist is startled by China's AI development because they are staffed by fools who think the US' economy did better than China's last year.

Communism will give you nightmares and make you a victim.
Whatever happened to the Indians that attended this event with Sam Altman basically saying that India has no chance of competing against OpenAI?

Check the question at 8:04 of the video.

The Indian venture capitalist proposal that on the surface may have looked and sound absurd at that time but fast forward to today, it's what's actually happening in generative AI space with the the blue whale along with the alleged cost of around $6 million. Unfortunately, it's not an Indian startup but from Chyna!!

Under the deal now being negotiated by the White House, TikTok's China-based owner ByteDance would retain a minority stake in the company, but the app's algorithm, data collection and software updates will be overseen by Oracle, which already provides the foundation of TikTok's web infrastructure.

Another thing I want to add on. This is a trick by the China hawks to con the Chinese Regulators alongside Bytedance. They will not be allowed to own a minority stake period. As soon as it becomes an US company then Congress or the Whitehouse will decree or blacklist Bytedance as a national security threat and force the sale of the minority stake.

This offer is an illusion.

Trump: Tough luck China. Congress says that TikTok will now be 100% American. And so it will be.

Trump: But let’s talk business. I will allow DJI to operate in America but it must be sold to an American company. We will allow DJI to own a minority stake. If you don’t I will sanction and tariff you.

Rinse and Repeat.

Algorithm was never the issue to them. It is the brand name because let’s be honest. They will put their own algorithm in and most people don’t care and won’t really notice. Except the New US TikTok is going to be pushing western propaganda narratives with CIA NGOs given priorities to fill user feeds.

The China Hawks are basically doing what the Biden Hawks were doing with Russia. They are attempting to isolate China as part of their preparations to fight China. The only reason why the China hawks are offering an olive branch right now is because they are scrambling to rebuild before directly fighting China. On the other hand, the Biden Hawk would be immediately antagonizing China/Iran/Russia right off the bad had they won.

Without the algorithm it'll languish. Even if it's just all about marketing it can easily be overcome. Just by placebo effect people will "feel" a difference, then rumors will run wild about this "new" app creates by the old owners of Tiktok that has the "OG secret sauce" algorithm, then watch people jump over themselves to switch to the new app.

I genuinely hope that reports of Chinese gov's alleged openeness to TikTok sale are fake. Allowing US to essentially extort TikTok from them would be so humiliating and tantamount to China going "full eunuch" as another poster has written couple of months ago.

Under no circumstance should the algorithm be sold or managed by Americans. They should also not allow global-non-US operations to be sold.

The failure to do take this very basic stand should result in treason charges for the TikTok leadership.

State of LLMs post DeepSeek.
They are going to blame the coming collapse of US economy on Deepseek R1

They were thinking about charging enterprises between $2000 to $20000 per month for o3 PRO usage...

Now with Deepseek R1 and the expectation of upcoming R2, etc... thats put a major dent in their plans...

Because DeepSeek published the weights to a SOTA reasoning model, this means enterprises are no longer locked into OpenAI API .... and can now either self-host internally or choose any cloud hosting or inference provider of their choice

It also means they have infinite flexibility to fine tune, distill, train and build their own models etc, esp since Deepseek also printed the recipe and methods....

This means less data is trafficked and less info harvested by OpenAI (CIA) and the US now has much less of a grip on power/control over the rest of the world, making StarGATE much less of a gatekeeper and their Global AI Tax scheme goes up in smokes a la LA fire style

That's like blaming the collapse of the horse carriage industry on Carl Benz inventing the automobile.
Still, this is an epic bubble if it's popped. As someone else earlier in the thread correctly inferred by calling it weapons grade this is technological/economic nuclear first strike. The amount of devaluation this thing can cause is on similar level to an actual nuclear attack:
