How many Chinese actually stay in those budget hotels?
According to the article 5-6% of their accommodation, not sure in raw numbers tho.

It’s a small percentage of their business, it’s no wonder they can grandstand. But the boycotts on the goods is a different matter.

Here's the thing. If Indians and whoever out there in the world wants to cry wolf/gaslight in mass media about Chinese aggression, then China might as well just be aggressive.

All these territorial disputes with India and ASEAN should be handled immediately if they say "Chinese have claimed blah blah blah." Worst thing they can do is put out the same headlines again and reply with the same inaction.

While I can understand it for India, I think a more balanced approach to ASEAN is better, at least for the countries that are not actively antagonising China. It’s not about appeasements but there is no need to actively seek conflict when the status quo works better.

Primarily due to the fact that economic forces will make the ASEAN countries more complaint in the long run anyway, why waste effort and energy on what will happen regardless. India is a different case due to it’s size and potential.

Agree. India is a lost cause. They want to join the quad. That’s their intention long before the current standoff. India people aspire to be more like Europeans. Look at their beauty pageant; all the women use chemicals to make their skin white. They are jealous of China, but want to be like America.

Well... no one said it was logical.

I mean the whole concept of boycott is illogical.

Yes, Indian hotels boycotting Chinese visitors is illogical.

But in another example, Japanese cars were subject to a Chinese consumer boycott some years back.

So Chinese consumers ended up buying Chinese, Korean, American or European cars instead.

That did make economic sense, because it strengthened the local Chinese automobile industry, as Japanese cars could be easily replaced.

Fair point! I guess it does make certain amount of sense should there be an indigenous alternative.
