Are those Type 88 tanks?

Didn't know that these were deployed there. Not the most modern tank in the PLA's inventory. Kinda surprising that the PLA went with these tanks to face Indian armour at the Ladakh border.

The western theater have only recently taken delivery of Type 15. It is a pretty new tank after all. Not sure why no Type 96, perhaps not suited to high altitude but then Type 88 is?! So probably has something to do with understanding that 1. any actual war would mean frontline ground forces will be wiped by initial Indian artillery and air strikes. Indians seem to think similarly with pretty poorly equipped frontlines as well. Any real fighting would mean frontlines on both sides quickly being destroyed with air forces vying for air superiority to destroy opposition artillery and support ground forces behind from moving in to territory that can really only be touched by missiles or long ranged artillery.

Anyway it doesn't make sense to risk much but there need to be physical presence to stop the other side from going in even for a dance routine. That applies to both. This is why we saw the photo last month of the two sides about 50m apart and then the new disengagement video showing the absolute frontline moving back and they were within 50m of each other despite using vehicles.

Indian politico military leadership is thoroughly confused, finally India will have to vacate the Ladakh area as per perceived Mao Line of 1959. With winters giving way to spring,we may witness some more fire works. Already Indian thinkers and opposition have put Modi on the mat for succumbing to China..interesting times ahead

I'm looking for what the hell is the 1959 line and i'm getting confused:

Wouldn't 1959 line be a significant loss of territory?

Good to see that China and India have reached an agreement that allows for de-escalation. I wasn't that concerned that it was about to expand into a hot war, but I did worry the current stand off would continue. The longer it continued, the more chance there would be for future loss of life.

This line comes with a condition,India has to fallback 20 kms west of this line and will become a buffer zone,India will not be allowed to build any infrastructure within these 20 kms, that means a net loss of approximately 1000 sq kms..it is not that simple

If you go south around Chushul and further down into Himachal, these will be significant loss as India will have go back significantly

India's defence ministry says it won't accept 1959 line and will continue to claim LAC is at Finger 8 just like China will continue to claim LAC is at Finger 2.

After a tweet by Indian Osint today, I checked official US govt LAC in Depsang and found as per them anything east of the famous Y junction of depsang is on Chinese side. Same in Google earth too as well as Apple Maps. None of them have changed Lac Orientation in their maps in atleast 10 years

But even then, India keeps saying LAC in Depsang is 17 km east of Y junction just to maximalize it claims and gullible Pakistanis and Chinese on internet keep believing it just so they can say India lost 1000 sq km.

Here is NASA map which shows LAC is at Y junction and not 17 km east of Y junction as Indian media claims.
