That explains the level of aggression displayed. Things are very heated in the Kashmir region.

The rules of engagement on the LAC are different than on the LoC in Kashmir, but the personnel in the Indian military have the same mindset that aggression and casualties are natural and par for the course.

China needs to find a way to work with a few hundred elite families that more or less run the whole show.

I've pondered about this strategy too (just for fun lolz.) This is actually a very powerful idea, pure Sun Tzu and 'indirect methods.'

There can be a list of 20 businessmen, in a few mercantile provinces, which together would account for a significant chunk of India's GDP, in the most advanced sectors of its economy. Keep in mind, these rich provinces are already anti-Modi (e.g. Mahashastra.) Their loyalties have always been more local, rather than federal. They are not much concerned with Northern India's jingoistic attitude (they don't even speak the same language as Bollywood media.) The central government in Dehli is actually an obstacle for their development due to its notorious inefficiency. It should be possible to covertly entice these key players with $$$ and trade deals for their businesses, to influence their provincial politicians to adopt an 'independent' path from the federal government. After all, these provinces used to be independent kingdoms. There is no historical precedent of a unified Indian state, except when it was forced to be united by a conquering force.

Chinese and Indian troops have reinforced their positions along their disputed border, but tents that might have been the spark cause for the
appear to have been removed, according to the latest satellite images of the area.

“There is credible evidence to suggest that both China and India have significantly reinforced their positions on their respective sides of the de facto border,” the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) said on Thursday.
It based its assessment on satellite photographs of the Galwan River valley taken by Earth-imaging company Planet Labs on Tuesday.

Neither is anyone inside our borders nor have any of our posts been captured, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday at an all-party meeting called to discuss the clash with Chinese forces in Ladakh in which 20 Indian soldiers were killed this week.

"Neither is anyone sitting inside our borders nor is any post been captured. The entire country is hurt and angered by what China did at the LAC (Line of Actual Control)," PM Modi said at the all-party meeting, categorically rejecting suggestions that the Chinese had intruded and were sitting on Indian territory.

"Twenty of our bravehearts were martyred in Ladakh but not before they taught a lesson to those who raised an eye at Bharat Mata," he added.

From your posts around here I gather that you're concerned about a war breaking out between India and China. Don't be. Narendra Modi is nothing but a gerbil, he's a little rodent who'll run at the first sign of real danger. He's real tough when he's bulling Indian Muslims and Kashmiris, but he'll run like the rat he is the second he's confronted with real power.
