exactly, I'm tired of Beijing's win/win strategy. Also I think they should at least let the population vent some anger. If this was some NATO backed country they would be calling reinforcements from all sides and shouting from the highest mountains. Instead we are told to be quiet and everything will be ok. Hopefully this is temporary and only at the surface.
If India is not taken care of, we ordinary people know the consequences. I don't know what Beijing is thinking or planning. Hopefully they have some strategy in-store or we are gonna be the losers.

Right now info on what happened is really scarce. At least in the clashes few days ago, it would seem there aren't any PLA casualties, since in general social media tends to lit up whenever a soldier dies in the line of duty.

Given the captured Indian forces and number of casualties... Its really doubtful this was some sort of melee like Indian media claims, that seems like a lie to deeascalate, so China might not want to challenge it either.

It sounds like an Indian force pressed too far and maybe mistook an Army position for something else.
A war wouldn't benefit either especially in a time like this. I'm not so sure India wants to deescalate, They claim higher casualties as a rallying cry for vengeance, not "this might be a bad idea". China seems to currently just doing shows of force to send a message rather than outright wanting to take lives.

In any border conflict with India, the US is guaranteed to provide covert battleground intel to the Indians.
This may help even the odds in India’s favor.
This is true, and I wouldn't doubt that this whole situation is escalating with US backing behind it, as it gets to use India as it's proxy to deal with China. Exploit old tensions to justify moving forward with it's own agenda and India thinks it'll get a cut of whatever the US gains.

I think that India has one big advantage here in that she has ( AFAIK ) much more mountain infantry troops than PLA.

What I do wonder is: What India wants to get from this? Control over a few disputed ( but useless ) areas. Even if they gain them, like Ladakh or whole AP, so what? China will still be on the other side.

It's prudent for PLA to be on high alert on the entire Sino-Indian border. Nationalistic and retaliatory sentiments are high in India. An retaliatory attack is possible on another part of the front. Knowing the nature of India, they won't spare an opportunity to display the dead bodies of pla soldiers or parade the POWs. They won't offer China the same kind of courtesy as China offered India.

I think I understand. If we act like uber nationalists like Indian BJP zombies and become hostile in every perceived act of aggression, most countries will pass up investing in China. We should still make sure that India does not threaten not only the region but our partners further west and north.

Is there a source for this?

From my understanding and what i've read, it's the opposite. India lacked personnel near the border and actually brought in units from the Pakistan border. In fact the officer that was killed was from Kashmir and stationed near Pakistan before.

That explains the level of aggression displayed. Things are very heated in the Kashmir region.
