3rd picture with the covers on the pylons, does that appear to be a twin rail?

Yes, bomb racks actually.

that regiment role is ground attack, and flew Q-5 before converted.
so not surprising they have those bombracks.

interesting...looks like the early pictures from the JH-XX thread.

I still suspect that alleged PS image was just a coverup story for something that really existed, except the PLAAF authorities aren't ready to disclose this to the public yet. Maybe this plane can be the future answer for 4.5++ gen fighter-bomber. But of course anything solid confirms my suspicions, I'm taking the official story for now. (Just to save my face and time)

Well there was one ejection, they probably don't need a weapons operator for air shows so there's hope.
Was it a stunt gone wrong or was it some mechanical failure?
Hard to tell at this point, but definitely needs some watching.

Yes, definitely one chute, and it looked like that it opened in time to keep the pilot alive. Hope he was flying solo in that one, although you don't often see twin-seaters fly with a single pilot at air shows do you? Usually they prefer to stick someone in the back seat to help train them up and also serve as back-up.

I also remember a story a few years back where a PLAAF cadet got spooked and ejected himself and his instructor flew the plane back to base, so there is a chance the ejection seats are not linked.

I just hope there was only the single pilot onboard.

I wish there was more footage, but looking at what there is, it appears the plane was just leveling out from a turn and suddenly nosedived seconds before the ejection and crash. That would suggest some catastrophic mechanical failure to me.

CCTV claims one parachuted to safety (whom we saw), the other being searched for.

通场后返航过程中发生事故坠毁,“一名飞行员跳伞生还,另一名正在搜救中”

Considering the nature of the crash, I think that's translation for 'we can't even tell where the plane ended and the pilot began'.

XI'AN, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- An aircraft plunged Friday morning during an air show in Pucheng County in northwest China's Shaanxi Province.

There have been no reports of casualties, but witnesses said they saw that the pilot was ejected before the fighter jet fell at about 10:45 a.m.

Xinhua reporters saw heavy smoke billowing at the Pucheng Neifu Airport, where the air show was being staged.

The air show is continuing, Xinhua reporters said.

The fighter jet FBC-1, also known as a Flying Leopard, was manufactured by the Xi'an Aircraft Industry Corp.

The three-day air show that opened on Friday is part of the China International General Aviation Convention being held in Xi'an, capital city of Shaanxi.

Video footage broadcast by China Central Television (CCTV) showed that the pilot was ejected and parachuted shortly before the fighter jet nose-dived to the ground and exploded.

Official word is that there is no casualties on the ground. One pilot safe one missing, it'll take a while for all the remaining to be identified and collected.
