When did that happen? As far as I know, RD-93 is JF-17 specific. RD-93MA is derived from improved and uprated RD-33 (RD-33MK?). What plane do Indians have that needs to be powered by RD-93MA?

At the same time with the full-rate production in Moscow, Klimov JSC in St. Petersburg continues to refine the RD-33MK and RD-93. According to Klimov, the company’s jet engine priorities are the development of the modified RD-93MA with the thrust enhanced to 9,300 kgf for a foreign customer and the development of the upgraded RD-33MKM with a thrust of 9,500 kgf for the MiG corporation

^^ That is some good news!

The "foreign customer" for RD-93MA can only be China and they are only using this engine on the FC-1/JF-17s.

Could it be that the Block-III Thunders would have the RD-93MA?

could be, depends upon the user, both options are available, RD-93xx more likely for PAF IF (big if) Russians restrict the export to other users which seems unlikely to me. With being a part of the deal, they are making billions so why would they bother to anger Chinese? Unless the thunder is competing with their Migs or SUs for some particular order (Egypt case, Mig-29 vs jf-17).

I must question the presumption that Chinese would get angry with Russians for sake of Pakistan and RD-93MA. Chinese-Russian relations are not predicated upon quality of Russian-Pakistani interaction. Some Chinese friends have complained at being taken for granted at times. Seems like they have a point. I would too if I were Chinese. Pakistani posters need to watch their words and see to it that they do not rub our friends the wrong way.

My friend, I can assure you that no Pakistani takes our Chinese brothers, for granted. There is no Pakistani here or anywhere who wants or "treats our Chinese friends, the wrong way".

If you have been on the internet forums long enough, you know that anytime there are clowns acting up, it's 100% indian pretending to be Pakistani, to spark up a fire. That's all these trolls are good for, to create rifts between friends and allies. So, please think again and understand that we Pakistanis take our friends very seriously.

China has always been an exceptional friendly, brotherly country toward Pakistan for the past 60 years. And today, the new generation Pakistanis recognize that friends are treated with mutual respect and receprocity is the approach which Pakistan is/must take toward China.

they will not get angry but they will apply pressure for timely RD93 deliveries. after all JF-17 has been good business for AVIC, another export success in the making. and it is in the interest of Russians to do so.
I don;t see how India could apply pressure on this front effectively. they really don't have leverage with the russians.

I suspect even after WS-13 is matured on airplane. some customers will still choose to use russian built RD93 engined JF-17s. simply to hedge bets. and why not. more engine choice for an airplane means better better options for the customers.

How do JF-17 proves to be good business for AVIC when they are zero export sales so far? PAF not counted since they are investor of the project too.

Zero export sales ..... till now. That does not mean that the JF-17 Thunder is not profitable for AVIC.

Make no mistake, the JF-17 Thunder is going to be very successful and will attract quite a lot of business for AVIC and its partners. The market is ripe for the Thunder and the marketing of this aircraft is being carefully crafted.

The JF-17 Thunder is destined to become a success story. There are a number of real customer-countries who will be buying the JF-17 Thunder. And as with every combat-aircraft sales, there are a lot of things that need to be sorted out before the sale actually takes place. In other words, it takes time, but once you're all geared up production rate-wise and have your marketing strategy in place. It is only a matter of time.

Speaking of time ..... Dassault's Rafale, whose first flight was in 1986 and was introduced in to service in the french air force in 2001. Did not see it's first sale till a whole decade after being introduced into service!!!

Now I am comparing Rafales to Thunders, but these things take careful planning, marketing strategy and business relations. Once everything is in place, which seems to be the case now. We shall see quite a lot of order for the JF-17 Thunders.
