JF-17/FC-1 Fighter Aircraft thread

the falkland islands are some 500 km off the argentine coast, the combat radius of the JF-17 is 1352 km, so the falkland islands are well covered. armed with the lethal eagle strike missiles, they will be the nightmare for the brits.

during the 1982 war, argentina was desperately short of aircrafts with enough range and anti-ship capacity, with the JF-17, they can use the friction strategy: send out a few JF-17 everyday, since the falklands are so far away from home, there's no way that the brits can keep a big task force long in the falkland area.

Not to get off topic, but the nation is in desperate need of light and medium multi role aircraft. The JF-17 is a somewhat inexpensive aircraft to purchase and hopefully an inexpensive aircraft to maintain. I am curious to see what type of avionics and munitions will be incorporated into the aircraft. We can talk about Argentina’s situation in the thread under world Armed Forces

The biggest problem for Argentina back then was not enough range, not enough ASM (source codes provided to UK by France!), no decent BVR or WVR so no wonder they lost. All these issues can be changed if they go for JF17. Getting again French planes means just waiting for France to deliver every valuable info to the UK again. I see Spanisch Mirage F1 buy as a big mistake.

I concur with you. It’s a big mistake to purchase aircraft near the end of their life cycle with ten-year-old upgrades. Let keep this thread to the JF-17. We can discuss this at greater length in:

I am surprised no one has yet shared the news of imminent export sale of FC-1 / JF-17. Here it is:

There are no details attached with this news. Over at PDF, people are speculating that the customer is probably Sri Lanka.

1. The source is the Minister for Defence Production, Rana Tanveer. This is definitely not old news and neither it is something to be dismissed out of hand. Wait and see.

2. Pakistan's Prime Minister is going to visit Sri Lanka within a few days. It would not be unreasonable to expect an announcement of the deal if indeed Sri Lanka is the customer. We have known for some time about Sri Lanka's interest in half a dozen JF-17 Thunders, so it would not be something out of the blue.

3. I am not quite sure if you can be so authoritative in stating the numbers. Your numbers are an extrapolation, unless you work at PAC. Wait for some time and for more information to emerge.

Yes I can because I am the one who posted pictures of SP 40 under construction at PAC see post #680 which means all Block I were built last year

Sri Lankan deal has been on the cards for a while numbers are very small though

This question may have already been answer on this thread, but is there any news about block 2 JF-17? When is it entering in service? Waiting to see a real block 2 and not fanboy artwork.
Additionally will there be IRST or AESA on block 2 or not? And what about SD-10B and WS-13 in BLOCK-2. Thanks in advance.
