No my cousin works there I was visting, my family lives right underneith the Kamra airbase flightpath, whenever I go to Pakistan I always remember to pack my camera, I have lots and lots of pics, Erieye, JF17, Mirage series, C130 and even 2 American Chinnoks from Afghanistan who were there on a humanitarian mission, you will not believe how loud the Chinnoks are, their rotors have a very characteristic noise, u can hear them from miles away and identify it as a Chinnok before you se it, others here can also tell you i guess

Kamra is actually a mini-town, a entire city built around the airbase, where people work and live, it has schools, hospitals, universitys, play grounds, gardens and parks and lots more and all the foreign outlets from where u get great food, great place, well maybe not in time of war since it will be a high priority target :D but nevertheless

^^^Interesting, I just looked at the GE image of Kamra and I assume the JF17 production facility is the large new complex to the northeast of the runway? Pakistani air bases seem to be well maintained and all the markings are very clear, probably more professional than almost any PLAAF air bases.

AFAIK when CAC finished production the entire assembly line was decommissioned and key parts transferred to Kamra.

like many of the air force bases in Pakistan they were originally built during WWII by the British and as a result we did inherit alot of doctrine from them

Kamra itself is split into 1)-PAF's Minhas Airbase which is the biggest airforce bases in Pakistan and then you have 2)-Pakistan Aeronautical Complex which has in it Aircraft Rebuild Factory (ARF), Mirage Rebuild Factory (MRF), Aircraft Manufacturing Factory (AMF) and Kamra Avionics and Radar Factory (KARF), this has been built over many decades and is a vast industrial complex

it contains our best equipment and our best manpower, here is a website page for it

it is also surrounded by many hidden surface to air missile sites, Kamra is really the nerve centre of the Pakistan Air Force and there is not alot of people who can get entry to the site, its very strict control and actually GT Road which runs parallel has check-point after check-point stopping anything and everything

back in the days when our F16s were stationed here, it used to take just 7 minutes to get from base to Afghan border to intercept Soviet intruders during the 1980s, my uncle tells me when the reports came back that a intruder was shot down the AAA guns on the base would light up the sky in celebration

anyway i better not give out too much information about the base :p

Didn't the timeline that was published by both aeronautical plants say that the Block II will go into production in June 2012?

JF17 production at Kamra is still finishing off Block I, Block II will make its first flight in the summer, not sure if thats when the production will start, unless that is if Kamra has gone all out and manufactured the remaining JF17s in a hurry!

also somewhere in the Block II version a twin seat JF17 will also appear

Is any news Block 2 prototype will makes its maiden flight when?? Seriously, I don't think China is keen to do any export of JF-17. They don't reveal much news. How do they expect to sell things when they give so little info and keep so secretive.

no secret, read rest of the thread for info

Block I 2009-2012- 50 units
Block II-2012-2016- 100 units
Block III 2016-onwards 100 units (to be confirmed)

we started at 15-20 units per year pushing that to 25 in the next few years before reaching max. Pac Kamra capaciity of 30 units per year and it has appeared at airshows from East to West with full outfit of weapons and aerobatic displays

Re: JF-17/FC-1 Fighter Aircraft thread

What's with the obsession with twin canted tails? No block of JF17 will have those as that will completely change the aerodynamics of the plane.

I am surprised no one has actually bothered to produce a more realistic CGI of a future JF17 upgrade model.

I see J10 like fixed IRF probe, IRST and maybe F16-esqu conformal as likely features. Maybe even some under-intake mini hardpoints for targeting and navigation pods, but that's probably as far as they are likely to go in terms of external changes.
