Price of JF-17 cannot be determined, till there is an actual sale price involved.

But what is important is the cost of manufacture, in this particular case.

I don't think this will be too bad for China ..... esp if they can put the local engine in place of RD-93. If not, then RD-93 alone will cost a couple of millions in hard cash.

A flip side off course if that if WS-13 misbehaves in the hands of PAF pilots, it could give a bad name to JF-17 .... and hurt it's saleability to real clients who may be willing to pay. More so, because it is difficult to hide news from Pakistan.

That brings up an interesting point, these past few weeks have been pretty interesting for Chinese military watchers, PL-12 of the FC-1, new J-15 pictures with WS-10, more J-20 flights, the first pictures of the J-10B with an ESA radar, new CISW weapon for the PLA but there's something we haven't heard news of in a while is the WS-13. Does anybody have any new information on its progress?

Re: is JF-17/FC-1 good enough? why doesn't China supply J-10 to Pakistan instead?

Free J-10s are always welcome. (just like the 50 JF-17s). Paid for J-10s, I think is getting a bit too optimistic.

But I think J-10s will not be offered because J-10 production capacity is not free at the moment.

JF-17 has no orders as of now .... so it makes perfect sense to offer them to Pakistan for Free.
(In fact, there may be some other countries looking for free JF-17s too e.g. some African countries, Bangladesh ..... Sri Lanka, yes, but probably if they want, they will have to pay atleast something)

Possibly, later on J-10 will also be available for Free ... but 5 or maybe even 10 years later.

LCA is unlikely to be given to anyone, anytime near ..... but if at all, it won't be for free. Other items, maybe to Afghanistan or Myanmar.

It sounds strange if China is also going to buy and pay for the RD-93 on these 50 JF-17s.
Or it could be planning to put some own engine .... since Pakistan can't complain, since it's getting everything Free.

Kamra invested 300 million dollars and Chengdu invested the same amount too. Where you live is 300 million nothing or called free?

Hows Pakistan getting it free, maybe "friendship" loans? India use to get weapons very cheaply from Soviet Union, but since India and Indians are mega rich they dont need friendship prices anymore.

300 million dollars is developmental costs. We are giving Pakistan 50 JF 17 free of cost worth 1 to 1.25 billion dollars

where does it say free of costs. Sorry I have not read all news threads on subject, so point me to right article.

Reading a Pakistani newspaper they highlighted the billion is gonna be paid by nation. BTW the article author is not happy about the money poured into defence purcurement.

There is no free lunch ... do you guys know if there is any string attached ?

No ... no string. Atleast nothing is mentioned.

Friendship should have bonds, not strings. Pakistan also gave valuable help for free - feedback from F-16 pilots, an unexploded tomahawk .... and if the stealthy helicopter tail is provided to China, that will also be free.

.. and China has to keep in mind the strategic aspects -> USA gave 18 F-16s to Pakistan totally free of cost.
(18 more F-16s are also a possibility, again free). So, it's natural expectation to have some sort of parity.

It is a longstanding principle of China to not attached strings to military sales, and especially not for Pakistan.

The US and UK often talk of their 'speical relationship', but in reality, it is not so 'special' compared to the relationship between China and Pakistan.

Wall Street Journal begins an article with:

China has agreed to provide 50 more JF-17 fighter jets to Pakistan on an "expedited" basis, a spokesman for the Pakistani air force said, one of the most concrete illustrations yet of how China could fill the vacuum if the U.S. scales down its aid to Pakistan following the raid that killed al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

Are these aircraft to be created out of thin air?

China to Speed Up Fighter Jets for Pakistan

This was a political gesture. more than anything. to give Pakistanis more leverage for example.

as for the fighter jets out of thin air.
they can speed up certain aspects of the delivery schedule for example, that's prob what's in order.
FC-1/JF-17 schedule originally calls for substantial efforts to set up the production line in Pak. that would prob be slowed down, instead the sub-suppliers in china are called for speeding up their delivery schedule.

an over eagered media created the rest of the story.
