Check the date on that post, Its an oldie from right after the incident.

i have to say its almost frightening the way China is pushing its heavy equipment tech fast that's part of the reason we see so many variations of things like tanks and jets and choppers. I mean just think back to that PLA general who said the PLA was equivalent to the US military of the gulf war. That was what only a handful of calendars ago today I figure we could say the PLAN is maybe 1996 in terms of capital ship fleet, its still lagging in carrier and subs PLAAF is about 1999 Gen 5 fighters, Gen 4 fighters still lagging in bombers a bump up with the new global transport and parity with drones.
PLAGF about the year late 1999 pre infantry boon of OEF and OIF but her tanks if they have ADS hard kill might actually be beyond Abrams. Still working on apcs but a long way come in choppers with Z10 and Z19 pushing to 1990s but transports being early 1980s.

Actually, it is a BKZ-005. The tail gave it away.
Yes, that was completely settled earlier on this very thread. AT THIS POST. You might read through the posts to see if such things have been further discussed and resolved.

Anyhow, you are right, it is clearly the older UAV.

And clearly the Japanese rendered and meant it no harm. They just photographed it, as they did the H-6G from the day before.

The PLAN or whichever branch launched it, did display some significant range capability with the UAV though.

The interesting point about this whole incident is that Japan made it a general announcement about shooting down the drone instead of filing a formal complaint against PRC because as I had posted earlier there probably was no national insignia to identify the drone of which nation it came from resulting to PLAAF's hot tempered statement.

Any nation will shoot down an unmarked drone that was entering their air space since there is no way to hail the drone or people that controls it or verify it's intentions. Basically it could be a flying bomb flown by an unknown hostile group for all they know so they will treat the threat as such.

Japan eyes government support for military aircraft exporters

TOKYO — Japan is considering providing low-interest loans from a state-run bank to support exports of aircraft designed for military use, the first time such sales are being considered since the end of World War Two, according to officials with knowledge of the still-developing policy.

The step would mark an extension of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s efforts to bolster the self-reliance of Japan’s military and could open an overseas market worth tens of billions of dollars in coming years for the country’s defense contractors.

It would also mark a sharp reversal of the near-total ban on exports of military equipment, a development that could strain ties with China as a more assertive Japan seeks a market for military technology in Asia and beyond.

Japan’s post-war constitution, written by the U.S.-led occupation forces, renounced war and a standing army. Major military equipment makers moved into other fields and the current ban did not formally take effect until the fast-growth era of the 1960s and the evolution of Japan’s Self Defense Forces put the issue on the agenda.

Two of the initial test cases for Japan’s policy shift are likely to be the C-2 military transporter, built by Kawasaki Heavy Industries and ShinMaywa Industries’ US-2 amphibious plane, according to three officials involved..... To read more

JSDF deploys Type 88 land based mobile anti-ship missiles launchers in Okinawa

Japanese defense ministry officials announced that its forces are conducting an exercise that places Type-88 surface-to-ship missiles on Miyako Island. It is the first time Japan has conducted such an exercise. The strait between Okinawa and Miyako is a common access route to the Pacific by the Chinese navy.

Few 'leaked' proposals for the next National Defence Program Outlines so far:

1) increasing the number of AEGIS equiped destroyers to 8 vessels
2) construction of 'Japanese LCS' vessels
3) decreasing the number of tanks from 'around' 400 to 300 due to shift from Cold War attack from the north scenario and using the money on Ryukyu Islands defence
4) increasing GSDF personel from 154000 to 159000

How are they going to pay for all of that, especially if you want to increase the GSDF (people are usually the most expensive part of a build up)?

F35B from US Marine corps will be based in Japan from 2017, just in case anyone missed it
Yes, they will need to be there in order to be embarked on the LHD or LHA that is stationed in Japan along with the CVN group there.

Now, the question is, will some of "Bravo" F-35s be cross deck on occassion to the Izumo class vessels? I bet they do.
