Re: Japan to mull pre-emptive strike ability

In addition, stronger Japanese military, coupled with renewed nationalism, will make its neighbors nervous. Everyone knows what happened the last time Japan had a strong military (except it's young people), and none of her neighbors has forgiven it for its massive, widespread, and unspeakable crimes against humanity in antebellum and during WW2.

Er... actually... many of the countries had already forgiven or forgotten what the Japanese had done... the Philippines for an example welcome Japanese help in countering China... and Singapore... most of its young people didn't really feel a thing about Japanese invasion in WWII and many (I would be so bold as to say) most youngsters might not even know much about WWII... and this would include not that young generation (those in the fifties)... I know... because I have an aunt that would rather go screwing everything that is China and praising anything that is Japan. So... yeah, that is a sad fact.

In that light... I am pretty confident to say that in the event of a war between China and Japan, many ASEAN nations (or at least some of them - eg. Singapore and Philippines) they might actually have sided with Japan. They might not want to get involve in conflict but they will side with the Japanese. I saw comments left in sg.yahoo.com and youtube (clips showing PRC in Singapore)... the youngsters or oldies (not sure) are mainly pretty harsh in their comments against the Chinese on the whole (which actually made me wonder)

Finally... I have seen youngsters in Singapore wanting to throw away Chinese language while they would rather learn Japanese (private lessons)... and that is soooo sad.

So... yeah... I do not really trust the reaction of the ASEAN neighbours to Japanese grow in military might... who knows? They might even feel alright, because the Japanese will be able to counter the 'China threat' that they felt right now.

Laughable.

Which part of my comment say anything that my aunt loves Japanese Army style? I say, my aunt like everything Japanese but scoff anything Chinese. Plus what I say was that not all ASEAN country had yet forgiven the Japanese for what they did in WWII... taking Philippines and Singapore as an example.

I know it is sad, but it is what I have observed thus far and from reading current news.

To add... if really there is a war breaking out between China and Japan, and ASEAN countries are forced to take side, I am really not that confident that they would take the side of China.

I have a feeling that Hong Kong tends to side with Japan as well.

But China should not be worried about those ASEAN countries but rather its traditional ally, Russia.

Is the civilian who board diaoyutai comprised of Taiwanese, hongkonger and mainlanders. It's absurd to think that hongkong will side with Japan when comes to choosing Japan or China.

Your feeling does not reflect the real situation.

I can be sure one particular country still hate Japan to core and will side with China will be the Koreans if they can only choose between China and Japan.

Laughable.

Then you must not realize that only the South Koreans hate the Japanese as much as the Chinese. The rest of the Asians really see nothing wrong with Japan worshiping its internationally-convicted war criminals in shrines.

You, sir, clearly aren't up to date when it comes to this subject.

that's because a good portion of singaporeans are descended from rich chinese people who fled the mainland before 1949 so they wouldn't become political pariahs. you can expect them to bear a grudge against the ccp. plus china is "communist" and getting stronger so it's scary. japan on the other hand is the land of robots, anime, and hello kitty as far as they are concerned, not a threat in our time. they dont think about how much singapore's economy depends on china nor do they think about all the billions upon billions that dirty chinese politicians have hidden away in discreet singaporean bank accounts. reminds me of the old adage: don't bite the hand that feeds you.
in singapore's case, these people you talk about are going to end up on the wrong side of history. -though i'm positive a good number of them will start changing their minds as the decade wears on. just watch.

I really hope what you predict came true because it is getting more and more worrying... especially coming from someone who is living in Singapore all his life.

Clearly they do, but to take it to a higher diplomacy level will probably damage economic ties consider Japan still has some strong investment made overseas.

While both China and South Kore has made big economic strides that they can afford go loggerhead with Japan.
