Re: J-xx

I want to clarify one things about this stealthy FC1's "designer":

Can anyone show me the text that says it's based on 611, the FC1's official designer's ideas?

From all the text I can see, this is a work by a NoName guy who specifically said it's just his own idea. Many chinese magazines and Universities hold design competetion from time to time. It's very pleasant to see many chinese are spending serous time and efforts on military stuff. But, where does it say this is 611's design. Yes, 611 does have designs for FC1's future versions, but the question is: is this one 611's or not?

Re: J-xx

I just have to get this out.
One of the images, the front ended one, looks similar to a silhouette of a mystery aircraft shown on a demo cockpit display during an exhibition in China some time ago. It seems to me it could be one of their CG concept works.

On the photo of the aircraft, the background and the aircraft are merged from different sources. What's more, the pilot looks partly invisible.

He talks about improvements in electronics to the FC-1 successor. If he is merely a no name guy who did a nice CG based on his own ideas, it would make no sense at all for him to talk about the insides of his imaginary aircraft.

In other words, looking at the context, this is being presented by the website (and probably the magazine too) as a legitimate representation or concept art of the FC-1 successor.

ask yourself, why will china allow top secret aircraft boozing around Shanghai? but not in air proven ground?

Re: J-xx

Actually, for that picture of "modified JF-17", I saw the video shot of it taking-off on CCTV-7 channel (the Chinese state-run military channel) couple days ago. It only appeared on the TV very briefly but I'm sure it's the same plane shown in that magazine.

I could be mistaken but didnt i read somewhere on this or some other thread that the Russians offered a joint development of a 5th gen fighter, and if so what was the proposal and do you think it was unwise to have turned it down

Re: J-xx

It depends on what was offered.

China, in my opinion, is (rightly) focused on developing its domestic R&D capability. So the main interest in participating in such a project would be technology sharing.

This is against the interests of the Russians. They want to keep technology transfer as small as possible so that China will keep buying stuff in the future. Also, Chinese fighters compete with Russian fighters in export markets.

Obviously for a deal to be made both sides have to compromise a little. I guess they weren't able to find a balance that both sides were satisfied with.

Re: J-xx

That video was shown on CCTV?? Then that's really official.

Anyway it looks like we have a number of newbies here that are asking newbie questions about J-XX. Okay, here's a quick summary of the accepted wisdom in this forum:

Unlike what you may have heard from Pakistani Defense Forum or Indian Defense Forum or whatever, China is no longer a military hardware importing country. Put simply: Chinese military technology is roughly on par with Russian technology -- some areas ahead and some areas behind. So please don't bother asking newbie questions like "why doesn't China buy <Russian hardware>" or "wouldn't China be behind India if it doesn't buy <Russian hardware>". Many of the older forumites got sick of answering these questions over and over again.

Specifically regarding "J-XX". There are about 3 or 4 stealth fighter programs right now. There is a Chengdu stealth fighter program that is expected to be at the same stealth capability of F-35, but with MUCH better aerodynamic performance, and that will enter service around the beginning of the next decade. There is a Shenyang stealth fighter program that is expected to be at the same stealth capability of F-22, and that will enter service maybe 3 years after the Chengdu program. There is also a carrier-borne stealth fighter program, but that is even further into the future.

And the fourth I guess is this one -- a "stealthy" successor to FC-1 / JF-17.

Russia offered it to India, not China.

“枭龙”改型

“枭龙”战机由我国和巴基斯坦联合研制,未来将做为巴方主力轻型战机以替代老旧的歼七。而做为我方,“枭龙 ”将成为一种面向第三世界国家,低廉的、可大量装备的外销机型。但“枭龙”由于是一种低端机型,很多地方采 用了低成本、低性能的设计,可能很难满足部分国家对高性能战机的需求。因此,我尝试在不过多考虑成本的基础 上对原“枭龙”做了部分修改。

....

Please point me to where it says this is official. The author and the magazine clearly stated that this is just the author's own view. How did you come to the conclusion that this author works for 611? Are you the author, are you the publisher or are you just guessing? If guessing please give me some info on how you guessed.
