A top US Air Force (USAF) general says that Lockheed Martin F-35s have had at least one encounter with Chengdu J-20s, and that the Shaanxi KJ-500 airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft has a key role in long-range air-to-air kill chains.
As I would‘ve expected, they seem more interested in the KJ-500’s capabilities than simply the J-20’s characteristics.

It sounds like my hypotheses of AEW&C + EODAS-IRST in stealth vs stealth fights is correct.

This actually makes it much more important for China to develop "active chaff" or anti-missile missiles to protect the AEW&C.
Or develop drone escorts with these capabilities to provide a close-in defensive screen.

Perhaps one day we can see loyal wingman deploying small AA missile as hard kill. That will knock out incoming missile.

Counter AEW&C isn't actually that hard to do, just get a high-powered jammer to the point where it nearly has EMP capability, and point it at enemy AEW&C to fry its electronics. It's not exactly blowing the shit out of a plane, but it's sufficient to force the AEW&C back without doing a hard-kill and thus creating a diplomatic incident.
There is no such airborne jammer with such capabilities.
