Don't be fooled, the artist of this drawing posted this caption "以20这个体量，不多来两发真的可惜了。“ This translate to " With the size of J-20, it would be a real shame if there's not 2 more missiles." Take it as a joke guys.

But that doesn't mean that it's a joke. I mean, it might be simply because of how difficult it looks to be able to get 2 missiles in there, but I don't recall these cartoons ever divulging false information as a joke before. Usually, whenever they draw something, it's a matter of weeks before we see it.

To me, that's just more colorful verbiage than bluntly saying, "J-20 has got 2 more missiles," but it still strongly hints at it, just like the caption, "I want 2 more missiles," which technically doesn't mean that it got 2 more. In general, the verbiage pattern is inline with the tradition of the fun-poking playful demeanor in which these cartoons leak information.

发 can be rounds, or an item with numerical meaning, so in this case, it means missiles

Yes, I know. But it doesn't say "以20这个体量，不多来两发真的可惜了"... It simply says "I want two more rounds/missiles".

Eh. Pretty sure this one is a fun wish fulfillment drawing and not a reflection of some actual development.

In one of the screenshots, someone asked the creator of the comic if the drawing was fantasy, to which the creator replied "Am I the type that fantasizes about these things?"

The creator of the comic also replied to another comment asking if there was enough space within the side missile bay to fit in 2 PL-10s, to which the creator replied “the rabbits (rabbit, tuzi,means the Chinese in Chinese military forums) are really smart.”

Given the pattern of these cartoons, why are we assuming it's a joke? The only reason is because it would appear close to impossible for us to imagine these side bays holding two pl-10s.

The cartoonist themselves said they're not ones to joke and give false info.

It seems a highly unlikely development due to the assumed difficulty in performing the task so it's easier and more comfortable to assume it hasn't been done and this particular cartoon is a departure from its
usual reliability.

Do we know the range of pl-10? The rush to get two more short range missiles and equal number of medium range as compared to what the raptor can hold is obvious and has been mentioned.

BVR between two vlo fighters is likely going to transition into wvr. At least PLAAF seems to have confidence in this if they have indeed given j20 four sraams. Also would show lack of confidence in mraams having high p(K) against VLO and high ECM, EW environments. Or they don't at all and just want j20 to go in wvr even after shooting down five or six targets with mraams.

If this all proves to be true, we will know this was always the case. J20 being able to hold and launch four sraams from its two side bays. There is no way this is some sort of modification. The entire layout and design of the side bays from the very beginning would have had this as a goal; each sidebay to have two sraams or single future shortened mraams. They are simply revealing abilities very slowly. Let's wait and see further leaks on this matter.

There are a couple main ways that it could be interpreted:
1. either the drawing itself is "accurate" and somehow they've chosen to fit it with an extra SRAAM in each bay (which I'm not sure how it would work), or...
2. perhaps the drawing itself is a red herring and that the author is actually alluding to the previously rumoured PL-20 which is a BVR AAM that J-20 is meant to be able to carry six of in its weapons bay, but has chosen to obfuscate for referential purposes.


However, I think the past record has shown that this author's drawings cannot merely be ignored, and it is completely reasonable if not necessary for us to pay it the attention that it deserves.

If we ignore it then we are incompetent.

I don't think it's a joke.
Judging from post #5684's image, when questioned "这是真的还是意淫的?"(Is it real or is it made up?), the auther replied "我是意淫的人咩？"(Am I the sort that makes things up?)

IIRC this is the same person that leaked J-10 with TVC. I agree with Blitzo that he's past record can't be ignored.
