LOL and completely wrong
You just fall in the exact lot of people that flyzies described. "Not getting the lots of infor because not able to read the language."

Have you read the research paper posted by Blitzo regarding the monster missile in "Chinese AAM" thread?

Being able to read Chinese made Blitzo able to go through Chinese BBS to find that report. Being able to read Chinese made him and many others in this forum able to get information out from that paper. While you can not do any of these. Therefor, you have much less access to valuable information.

And the one reason that many bi-lingual or even tri-lingual people here has great input and learn a lot, is they (we) have more sources.

I don't get it why you are laughing and feeling cool and so certain of being right.;)

In general I agree with You and I always admire all who can read and understand Chinese and I know that for me it's probably my biggest weak-point. However that does not mean that our conclusions are wrong per se or must be wrong since they lack a general understanding. If You just look at the PDF where a few guys repeatedly bash others - including myself - for this but fabricate the worst BS like "the WS-15 is already operational, it looks only like a AL-31 or WS-10" or "it uses a WS-10-AL-31-hybrid developed by Chinese made by the WS-10's core mated with the AL-31FN's nozzle to hide it's real identity" and so on.

Again, I agree that I lack certain information and esp. what is written between the lines, however the true important facts will surface one day or another. So we probably don't get all information at once, but we also do not have to sort out the worst BS, since this does not remain on topic for long. And with the reminder of information I'm sure a reasonable conclusion is sometimes not that more far off that some strange theories that were otherwise discussed.

We are in agreement in fundamentals. However, my reply to FORBIN was another story. That is lack of knowledge of a language in studying the relevant country is a handicap. I myself would not be able to gain lots of valuable knowledge from SDF if I could not read and write English. The opposite applies equally true to FORBIN.

I myself ignore statements in BBS when they have nothing concrete to back up regardless what language they are written in, English or Chinese. The examples that you provided above are in such category, so I would call them BS as much as you would call them.

What I was saying and will be saying for ever is the kind of information that Blitzo has provided, those are only available in the relevant language and can only be obtained by native speakers of that language.

Haha, actually screenshots of that paper were posted on CDF, and I went looking for a way to try and download it from the original journal.. I eventually came across cnki where it could be downloaded but I didn't have access...

Then I realized my university's library database had access to cnki, so I was eventually able to get the pdf copy.

That said, being able to somewhat comptently read Chinese + translation programme for a few words here and there did help me translate parts of the paper for some information.

Mister Forbin is KOOL, he don't just feel KOOL! and he is in the top 5 or 10 SDF posters as far as real knowledge, and accurate assessment of what he reads and sees, he is able to put the pieces of the puzzle together, and he is very honest!

as well, he knows lots about everybody, and his range of interest is extremely broad!

in general it would def help to know the language, but we often see even Chinese posters unsure what is being communicated at times??? Chinese like English is a language of expression and nuance!

Not trying to emotionally bribe you:), but from my observation your Chinese skill is identical to a native speaker born and raised in China, although I heard that you migrated abroad in early age.

If necessary, I am glad to offer my service to translate as I was educated in Engineering in Chinese university. I had difficulties to map my engineering knowledge to English terms when I first moved to Europe. The other way must be the same.

Yep you're about right regarding my background, though my speech is superior to my reading. I can understand most things when translation programmes are there to translate some of the more jargony terms.

Nice, well I don't go around looking for Chinese academic papers that often lol, and I don't even spend that much time on Chinese BBS tbh, though if I come across something interesting I do go ahead and try to translate the interesting parts.

I think you've done so too in the past, and a number of other members who translate things from BBS and Chinese language sources as well, and the ability to provide translations of articles, studies and most importantly rumours, is one of the biggest differences which separates us from the host of half baked defence media sites and pundits trying to write about the PLA.

That is very true.

We should also remember that it is wrong to respond "wide range of information" with complete rejection is very wrong??? Wide range information is just that, wide range, some are right, some are BS. Calling everything wrong itself is wrong.

There is a very wide range of information on all aspects of China
