I Am Just Wondering, J-20 has gone this far; does China really need Su-35?

From previous images we could deduce that the main weapons bay is around 4,2 to 4,4 meters long. And in recent images it has been nicely opened, so we can compare the door length to the length of the new missile. One gets approximately 2,8 meters to 2,9 meter of length for the missile. Logic would suggest it is a wvr missile, possibly pl-10.

What could fit - and even more that wide diameter - to my theory that the PL-10 we saw above (and as shown in my book ) was abandoned and replaced by a PL-8/9-based design with new control fins, TVC and so on.

Su-35 is something Russian try to shove to china. If china buy that thing, it will be a total waste of money.

do the missile design around TVC for super manuevirity?the image look so blurr.but the picture no. 6 posted by escobar, may give us a cue.it look like the missile TVC adapted vane control or jet vane similiar to AIM-9X (or scud missile) while the russian R-73 TVC uses movable nozzle

While hard to tell precisely, it seems missile's dimensions are around 2.9 meters long and 160-165mm in diameter.

We really have no way of knowing anything about development process of pl-10. Maybe it started with a pl-8 body from the start. Maybe those early design sketches were as wide as this missile. Many current gen wvr missiles have 160mm-ish diameter. R73 family, python family, asraam, a-darter. Those with smaller, 130mm-ish diameter are aim9x, iris-t, aam-5.

It is interesting that the designers seemingly chose both tvc and fairly large and radical control surfaces. I would personaly like to see some gas powered controls on the first half of the missiles - but that'd be a first in the world for this class of a missile so perhaps that is too radical. With current gen electronics and miniaturization it is realistic to expect this package to retain current generation range - 30-ish km under optimal conditions, but with very good maneouverability. I guess speed would suffer a bit more due to larger control surfaces, compared to similar missiles with smaller control surfaces, but that is usually a deliberate trade-off. Strakes on mid body also suggest more of a slower, coasting flight profile. "slower" being here a relative term. mach 2.5 to mach 3 is still pretty darn fast.

That video gives a few nice screenshots where length of entire plane can be comapred to length of the missile. Surprisingly, the plane looks even smaller than is usually thought when one uses 2.9 meters as length of the missile. plane length is then just 18 or so meters. Of course, missile could be a bit bigger or, more likely, there may be some difference in orientation of the missile - maybe it is not perfectly parallel to the plane's longitudinal axis.

It is interesting to see that a purchase of 24 is now currently on todays AFM Daily Report, along with 4 diesel/electric subs, this was supposedly finalized at the recent Moscow visit???? This thing seems to have legs this time, I still believe it will happen, not to be obnoxious, although the F-117s will have constraints??? not a full tech transfer. The AFM is seldom wrong and the first truly tangible source to break this..... Brat

It is hard to say if the misisle has swung out of a side bay or not. The first one looks that way from the front, but then from the side it seems like the missile is too long for the bay.

As I say...difficult to tell for sure.
