Well I thought I would mention it as I have yet to see it on pictures of 2011.

Do you have pictures of it on 2011?

If you observe closely you'll see that cuttings of that door.

The main landing gear door has two parts, one part is what you are talking about, another part is the one you saw open on all photos of 2011.

The two seem to be independently controlled and you can close the big bulky downward open front part while keeping the other part open.

I was wondering why they keep the big door closed in all of 2011 photos, but let it open in almost all the 2001/2002 photos... Even those photos showing 2011 taking off have the big door closed. Shouldn't they open it up during take-off?

The timing of the gear door actuation are likely controlled by software. So it would be adjusted to suit the demand of flight tests.

When the plane is brand new and everything needs to be tested, it would be prudent to leave the big door in front of the main gear open as much as possible. This is because the plane can fly with the door open. But if the untested door mechanism gets stuck closed, the gears can't retract or deploy.

Once this part has been test flown a few times, and confidence is instilled that everything works, then the plane would be reprogrammed to operate the door in a way that put less restriction on the plane's flight envelope during take off and landing. This means opening the big door only to let the wheel pass through during gear extension and retraction sequence, and then closing it as soon as possible.

By78, this has already been addressed....and moderated. There is no need to incite and use, in essence flame bating words to another forum member. SB explained himself about those pictures. He has not indicated that everything J-20 011 is fake, he just shared his concerns about two or three specific pics. We have all indicated we felt certain pics were or were not PSs...and most all of us, at one time or another, have also been wrong.

STOP THROWING IT BACK IN HS FACE

I think the internal cannon is going to be on the shoulder somewhere.

We have had a lot good quality pictures of the underside and flanks of the J20, so if the gun was placed anywhere in those regions, someone would have spotted it already. The only area where we had not had any decent resolution pictures are the topside of the J20, and the only place along the topside where you could place a gun is on the shoulders, similar to where the flankers have their guns.

We have seen pictures which suggest a hatched compartment on the right shoulder/cheek for an IFR, but we can barely see any hint of it on the pictures because of the medium resolution and how good the seams are joined. I'm guessing there is a similar compartment with doors, or a sliding hexagon cover, on the other side for the internal gun, probably a little further back to avoid dazzling the pilot when the gun fires.
