J-10 Thread IV

PAF 33rd Tactical Wing holds the No.15 Squadron's which has the J10C it was the 1st squadron to stand up with the aircraft

I do think Pakistan can do with a few more squadrons of this type and if the latest rumours are real

another 24 x units can be bought

J10CE + JF17 Block III are a very good medium/high combination for PAF

It’s actually very possible, probable even, that any Saudi purchase of J10s might be disguised as additional PAF purchases initially.

Given the existing piloting agreements already in place, it would be incredibly easy for Saudi paid for J10s to be delivered to Pakistan, with all the pilots and ground crews trained up in Pakistan, and then when needed, boom, fully combat capable J10 squadrons can stand up in Saudi Arabia basically overnight.

Come on ... Saudi Arabia will never buy J-10s, that's just ridiculous!

Saudi Arabia are more likely to buy J-10s than Egypt. Egypt not only doesn't have to pay for their F-16s, they effectively get paid to have them and make peace with Israel. Contrast that to Saudi, which is being used as a cash cow for the American platforms they operate. Egypt is directly next to Israel and has a history of going to war with them.

With both, I'd be highly sceptical until it actually happens.

agreed and actually the other way round PAF had such a agreement in the 1980s with Saudi Arabia when Pakistan first got the F16 Fighting Falcons

Inclined to agree with @Deino here: if the Saudis are going to upset Uncle Sam with a major defense acquisition from China that'll inevitably capture headlines -- if not personally annoy Trump -- then MbS and company might as well as place an order that will actually affect the regional balance of power in their favor (i.e. J-35).

It's not like Beijing isn't willing to sell Riyadh and Abu Dhabi the J-35, if not a J-35 "production line," especially in light of the progress China's 6th generation programs have achieved.

South Africa has 26 Gripen introduced in 2008, and they are the biggest economy in Africa, and a member of BRICS. Also South Africa is friendly to China.

They could pay for the aircraft with commodities as it seem that they somehow did not have enough funds allocated to SAAF despite being the largest GDP country in Africa.

I won't be surprise if they are a potential buyer of J10CE since their Gripens are already 16-17 years old, and a 2022 Sept 29th report from Creamer Media's Engineering News of South Africa wrote as below:-

company Saab has received a three-year support contract from the South African Air Force (SAAF) to ensure the latter’s Gripen fighter jets remain airworthy and serviceable.

The SAAF’s fleet of Gripens has been grounded since the third quarter of 2021 owing to a lack of funds to keep them maintained and in the air, which was further exacerbated by the

and support contracts for the fighters lapsing and not being renewed.

In addition, because the Gripen

Expo, on September 22, Saab Aeronautics head Jonas Hjelm said the newly inked support contract gives Saab a good foundation, together with the SAAF, to have a long-term plan on how many aircraft are going to fly and how Saab can support the SAAF in getting some of its Gripen fleet airworthy.

“Certain parts [of the contract] are for

, like simulators . . . which is necessary to prepare the pilots, as well as the technicians to [ensure the] aircraft fly,” he added.

Hjelm noted however, that the contract did not cover a specific number of aircraft and that the SAAF would need to decide which ones they want covered by the contract. “The contract covers [Saab] providing [to the SAAF] spare parts, time, manuals or

bulletins. How many aircraft [are covered] is something [the SAAF] will decide.”

He added that, despite Saab being involved with the contract, ultimately it was the SAAF that was responsible for the airworthiness of its Gripen fighters. “We, as an original-

manufacturer come with recommendations of what to do at certain times [in the life of an aircraft], what kinds of upgrades [are recommended], updates you should do to [ensure] the aircraft is up to date.”

Meanwhile, Hjelm stated that, if the SAAF wanted to upgrade its Gripens to ensure they did not suffer from a degree of obsolescence, then a number of possibilities existed.

“They have to decide what they want to use the aircraft for. From that perspective, [we encourage them to] have a dialogue with us about what kind of upgrades are available, not just from a flight

point of view, but also from an operational effectiveness point of view.”
Another route of upgrades is to extend capabilities of the aircraft, such as

capabilities, and upgrades to integrate new weapons.
“I am very happy and satisfied that we have now reached an agreement for a new support contract, so that we in the very best way can support our customers with their operational needs,” said Saab Gripen sustainment head Åsa Schöllin.

Over 150-million people in five countries on three continents rely on the Gripen C-series to protect their sovereign air space and ensure their independence.

In addition, Saab notes that the Gripen C- and D-series jets have successfully participated in North Atlantic Treaty Organisation-led, as well as numerous other, exercises and air policing assignments across the world.
