Derby-ER, Astra etc are all SD-10/Pl-12 class missiles +/-, they're not even in the same league as PL-15s.
Indian side has 3x Rafales with Meteors, Pakistani side 3...4x J-10CE and JF-17blk.3s (but the latter aren't combat-ready yet).

Rafales are (somewhat)more capable (and Meteors are longer-ranged), but Chinese fighters and especially missiles will be available in higher/far higher numbers.

But still, it was arguably much worse before for Indian side, because they still haven't moved beyond 1st gen RVV-AE (aim-120b contemporary), against c-series amraam.

Astra is a c-series competitor, after all.

Doesn't make sense. Next in line to retire might be basic jh7 (not the jh7a) and the su30.
Only then might one expect j10 to slowly start retiring.
According to Scramble only 1 Bde of JH-7 still operating - 806th at Yiwu. I think the early J-11A would go before Su-30s.

Jh-7 is a ground attacker. J-10A is different role and unsuited for ground strike. No role overlap. Retiring one or other has no priority. Is early batch SU-27SK retired? That would be sign of retiring J-10A.

I agree, as long as the PLAAF operates still a few J-7 and J-8 and the J-10A can be MLU-ed with new AESA to AG-stnadard maybe even including WS-10B engines it makes no sense at all to retire them.

The issue of the JH-7/7A is IMO totally independent from the J-10A since the J-16 is the typical success to the JH-7A.

Arent all non-recon j8 retired by now?
Also, how many non-training units even use j7 anymore? I would think their numbers dropped to perhaps just a few brigades. No?
