A question. What are the odds of J10B being an internal Chengdu project, tailored for Pakistani air force (and perhaps other potential exports)? If that's the case, PLA doesn't have to order these planes... Was fc1 tested at chengdu or also at cfte's airbase? Can these pics be traced as to where were they taken?

Next to none. The J-10 is one of China's best fighters. Exporting an upgraded version while leaving your own air force with something inferior just wouldn't make sense. Pakistan gets a lot of good stuff from China, but it will always be second tier to what China gives itself.

I think its too early to say...the PAF purchase is a good 4-5 years away. A lot of things might change by then, and maybe even a new plane might be flying over the chinese skies by then.

Personally I think if these additions work out for them, they are there to stay both on local and export versions. Physical external characteristics such as DSI, ECM housing, etc will be there to stay.

Exporting an aircraft doesn't necessarily mean you have to export your 2nd tier product, but it also means competing in the international market. J-10 is not China's top tier product even today let alone in 2014-5. Besides, you do not have to export the exact same ECM, Radar or missiles that you use but variants of it.

As for JF-17/FC-1, I think it was tested at Chengdu. Crobato would know better.

I was always curious as to why the B model has such an unusually long 'spike' at the tip of its nose, as that would seem a little excessive for an airspeed tube.

I wonder if it is going to be on operational examples or if it is merely part of the test intruments?

It is a pre test tube for getting the perfect air data in front of the engine. There is a big chance that the definite version will not have a pitot tube.

I look at this pic I'm pretty certain the radar has to be working on ESA principle now. Also, the pod under the wings looks like some new ECM, and there might be a new RWR near the engine duct.

radar has to been compact ,allowing room for the IRST.
according to the US, China is also developing DRFM for radar jammer.(and possible tow decoy.

during in 1986, NATO decided to fit there entire fighters aircraft with MIDS,except F-16,since there's not enough space available , the LRU has to undergoes redesign to make room .
