I look at this pic I'm pretty certain the radar has to be working on ESA principle now. Also, the pod under the wings looks like some new ECM, and there might be a new RWR near the engine duct.
Huitong's page mentions a PESA of possible Russian origin. But we haven't heard any order of orders or sales yet... So could a potential sale have happened? Or did the Chinese reverse engineer some of the PESA's on their MK2's.
That or your observation of an AESA is possible I think.

during the zhuhai airshow, janes was told of super J-10 fitted with PESA and TVC.
J-10S may have been the same aircraft mention by JDW.
according to janes, China import single example of PERO PESA from russia.
it is possible the radar was based on PERO.while there's no indication that the aircraft is fitted with TVC. could it posssbile it has negative effect on jet engine?

China is definitely not using any kind of Russian radar on J-10B, it will be a local AESA radar for sure. In fact, it's more likely J-10B will be deployed with AESA radar before any Russian fighter does.

Though people have mentioned it I'm not sure whether the "Super-10" is the same as the J-10B. Cause while there was mention of a PESA radar in the JDW article about the Super-10 it misses out other things like IRST, MAWS, and most importantly DSI. (But DSI could be part of the "stronger airframe")
I personally hope that the two aircraft are not the same and that the J-10B will have an AESA radar, but right now even six months after the initial flight no official news have come out about the plane.
Does anyone know how far after the first flight of a plane does China officially announce it's existence?

countries like france, sweden, russia and japan all of em has encounter tremendous difficulty trying to develop there own AESA for fighter jet.
already sweden decided to tied up with thales (france) co develop the radar.
even the US with vast resources and techno- known how encounter tremendous problem.
ight now,I do not think China ever field workable AESA.

Yeah I have my personal skepticisms... but it's not me you should be saying that "china may not be able to build AESA" to.

But eventually China will be able to field an AESA. How easy/hard it is to develop one and whether China currently has it on the J-10B on the other hand is up for debate at this time.

How big is the technological gap between the AESA on KJ-2000 and one that can fit into the nose of a fighter?

Always thought the J-10B would be fitted with PESA?

I doubt it is Russian. The Russian companies like Phazotron would have blabbered about it all over the place if that was so.
