In this case, what was being said can't be taken literally (They may be getting more of the best pilots, but not all), but still you get the point that they were trying to make. Of course, the flankers still have its place with its better weapons load and range.

regardless of which being more advanced, there is still no reason to let J-10 have all the best pilots and Su-30 get the crappy ones, Su-30 are meant to fight US carrier battlegroups they should get the best pilots in my opinion

Once a pilot is trained into a J-11 or Su-30MKK, they stay there. Noting how things go in the PLAAF, you are married into the plane until its retired.

For the J-10 they invest on the newest and youngest pilots which has the longest possible career life, not transfer experienced ones from other groups. Older, experienced pilots tend to have shorter remaining career spans left in them to invest that much training cost. They also do the same on the J-11, which is to go with the young most promising ones. I see no difference here. There is enough voluntary recruitment to have the best for everyone.

How old was the average age of the pilots in PLAAF? Do they retire at the age of 40?

I believe they are PS, actually, these are 2 different plans, if you look into details, I don't think they have 2 different proto type
