Colonel
what is that black thing in front of the canard? To reduce RCS when the aircraft is cruising and canard is only doing small angle trimming? Looks different to the prototype.

The unveiling of J-10B production coincides somewhat with establishing of China's ADIZ. I wonder if this bird would play a large role in East China Sea activities.

Radar warning receiver or some other similar EW gear. You will noticed that the two oval white antenna on the cheek of the J10A is absent on the J10B, that's where they have been moved. It's the same feature as found on the Rafale.

Gotta say I do like the J-10B's in service colours -- if A mace's picture is that.

Hmm...that intake reminds me of the XF8U-3, that competed against the F-4 Phantom for the US Navy. It won in almost every technical category...but was not selected because at that time the Navy wanted a two engine aircraft.

Not nearly as pronounced (for obvious reasons) but just reminds me of it.

Shenzhen TV reporting J-10B has entered serial production, using foreign sources. Interesting to note the main commentator they used for this piece is a member of a Taiwanese defense policy think tank. First they list the main differences between J-10B and J-10A, nothing new. The commentator note the relative slow development of J-10B, but believes the reason is not because the program encountered any serious technical problem, but because PLA took a conservative approach to this project and want to get everything right from the first production plane. On the need of J-10B, the program noted the introduction of Gen 3+ combat aircraft such as upgraded F-15J, F-18E/F, Su-30MK2, Su-30MKI and possibly Rafael, China also need a Gen 3+ fighter such as J-10B as counter until the Gen 4 J-20 enter service around 2018-2020. There are also some hints that J-10B is more multi-roles oriented compare to the pure air superiority J-10A.
