Hmm...that intake reminds me of the XF8U-3, that competed against the F-4 Phantom for the US Navy. It won in almost every technical category...but was not selected because at that time the Navy wanted a two engine aircraft.


Not nearly as pronounced (form obvious reasons) but just reminds me of it.

Its a common design method to get more intake area with out getting more frontal area.

Hey, besides all J-10B hype it seems as if the 124. Brig / Nanning Base is our missing last J-10A unit !!! :eek:

I believe the similarity is superficial. J-10B's intake design is driven by diverterless boundry layer control system. This appears to be a fairly new concept only tested in the early 1990s, and didn't exist in the days of XF8U-3.

Huh? How many F-16 can you get for $18 million? An F-16 BLK 60 cost over $80 million a piece. Even early 2nd-hand F-16 in storage cost $ 7 million IIRC.

The Kerry-Dung air kiss is just for show. Vietnam is usually good at walking a fine line between asserting its own interests, while not excessively annoying China.
