It should also be noted that the AL-31 M1 and M2 both comes with thrust vectoring control. I don't think that during testing the J-10B airframe or the software was designed or tested for TVC. If its not the AL-31 M2 with 145 kN but the AL-31 M1 with only 132 KN then what happened to the WS-10A that also has 132 KN ?

You do realise there's more to an engine other than thrust. Yes thrust is important but it is far from the whole picture. Just like pixels for cameras or clock speed for CPUs.

By the way it has been noted that the J10B is equipped with AESA radar rather than PESA. If so it will be the first fighter aircraft in PLAAF to be equipped with an AESA radar.

so that means PLAAF will start using the M2 even before Russia does? interesting!

in theory, yes. salyut is a company like any other, it will do business with those who pay. maybe even china helped to get m2 development ready in time, who's to know? r-77 missile, for example, wasn't even used in russian air force for good 15 years, up until recently, while other countries purchased it and used it.

I believe it was one of our members, "Engineer" who stated that the first batch of J-10b will be equipped with Al-31 engines anyway and than WS-10 as the next batch rolls by.

So much for the supposed improvements in Chinese jet engine manufacturing.

Well... either way you look at it, Chinese jet engine manufacturing has improved. Equipping new flankers with WS-10As is no mean feat.

But it can't meet every indigenous demand, and no one expected the indigenous industry to.

If the J-10Bs Al-31 is indeed a new uprated one, it says less about china's aerospace industry than it does about Russias.
