problem with previous generation MFI is that display panel is very small, smaller than your average lap top computer. that's why F-35 MFI decided to opt for large single pieces screen.
wonder why J-10 do not uses similiar approach.
The same question could be asked for a number of other design decisions, but as one writer stated, the Chinese defense industry appears to be better disciplined in keeping to project scope. Incremental improvements are added with later versions of the product.
The J-10A does not have F-35 style advanced cockpit system, because the designers stuck to a proven design and delivered -- hopefully one-time, on-target, and on-budget. If they had been tempted to allow scope creep, the plane would've probably been delayed by years while they worked to fix all the bugs.
The J-10 was originally ordered as a response to the USSR's new MiG-29 and Su-27 aircraft. Times have changed and, ironically the J-10 today is still China's response to the MiG-29 -- by producing the J-10, China does not need to purchase MiG-29's from Russia, other than the power plant. Had the J-10 program failed or delayed by decades, then the PLAAF might have had to import MiG-29's or buy more Su-27's.
