If they can produce 38 in 18 months, that means they can produce 25 a year, that is decent rate of production. I wonder if they can crank it up even more during wartime.

They can produce a lot more if they really wanted to imo, but they just don't see it at the moment.

Indeed, there is the demand constraint, there is the capacity constraint, and there is also the budget constraint. With all other aircraft in production and under development, there is simply not enough budget to go around to produce that many J-10B's. PLAAF would have to look at the overall force structure and plan their future force.

what's your count on the number of AL-31FN? I keep on thinking there was one batch between the one for 100 in 2005 and the one for 122 in 2011, but I can't find it.

AL-31 delivery’s

54 x AL-31 ordered in 2000 delivered between 2001-2005
100 x AL-31 ordered in 2005 delivered between 2005-2008
122 x AL-31 ordered in 2009 delivered between 2010-2011
123 x AL-31 ordered in 2011 delivery’s due between 2011-2013

Total AL-31 delivered 399

see, I was pretty sure about that 3rd batch order in 2009, but I can't find a link on that. Do you have it?

Even the new batch still using AL-31?

i believe it is possible that one of those orders was erroniosly labeled as fn variant while in fact it was f variant. then media just copy pasted that error and now it is hard to know the truth.

Either that or we will be seeing j10a/b produced with al31fn until 2015.

the data if from international arms transfer database which is in PDF format only and that is what China has imported nothing else

only other engine that China imported from Russia in those years was 55 x D-30 turbofans for H-6K delivered between 2009-2011

according to estimates it is suggested that China has in excess of 100+ AL-31 for use on furture J10 and Flankers, so enough for 1 Regiment of each aircraft roughly, also China has produced more than 200 WS-10 engines and probably has a healthy number of those ready too
