Looks like the WS-10 is a mature engine. They feel safe enough to put them on a single-engined jet like the J-10B.

However I still believe that the first batch of J-10Bs will employ the AL-31 engines. They are still experimenting with the WS-10 on the J-10B. It might take a while for them to work out the kinks (compatibility with the new, more powerful engine).

It is my opinion that J-10s with WS-10 engine are not intended for PLAAF. The logistic within PLAAF is too entrenched with AL-31F to make the switch now.

Do you think that Pakistan will get the J-10B with WS-10 engines then? I've also heard rumors that the first batch of the J-10Bs will use AL-31 engine.

they prob would go for AL-31. cheaper, less of an unknown.

spares are less of a issue than one think because PLAAF has a huge maintaineese / re-manufacturing facility

11B and J-15 are using WS-10. So logistic will not be a problem.

Probably first batch of PLA 10B will be AL31 but later will be WS-10. Just like in case of J-11Bs.

One of the issues brought up on CJDBY regarding the nature of J-10B's radar (I think we all agree that it is an electronically scanned radar of somesort) was whether the AL-31 engine was powerful enough to produce enough electricity to power an AESA radar. Could it be that the AL equipped J-10Bs are gonna use PESA while the later WS-10 equipped J-10Bs will use AESA radars?

I have 2 questions:
1. Based on the current performance and configuration of avionics, etc, and everything, which aircraft will the J-10A be comparable to, before and after fitting with WS-10? And I suppose it can be considered a Gen 4(Western) no problem?
2. As we know, J-10B is a big improvement over J-10A, with DSI, AESA, etc. What can we speculate the J-10B's performance to be comparable to? Will it put J-10B in league with the Eurofighter and the Rafale? And can it be considered 4.5g or 4.5+(+)?

Thanks!!
