J-20 has stolen J-10b's glory recently. Let me help J-10 out a bit.

A picture of the J-10b carrying missiles has been leaked recently. Check out the picture on this link:

Unless I am mistaken, even after the existence of J-10B was leaked, the PLAAF has continued to take deliveries of new J-10A's.

And now the J-20 has been leaked.

Is the consensus that the J-10B was simply a test-bed for J-20 technologies?

It is claimed J-10B is just a testbed on Huitong website. Given Huitong huge reliability. It might be truth after all.

J-10B sold to PAF is now not a matter of willing or not. Its a matter of the right price. It is claimed PAF are not willing to pay China asking price. Of cos, J-10B fitted with AESA can't be cheap.

No, I believe there will be a production version of J-10B and onward. Like the F-16A and Mirage-2000C, J-10A has a lot of room to grow and increase its potential.

There had been some comments about FC20 being an altered/upgraded J10 for Pakistan by the former ACM published in AFM. I think the word fanboy is nice but we all have less info then those mentioned. Surely we do not know the finances but there were some words in Pakistani press that the price needed to be lowered. Then again... We have seen lots of bad reporting by presses everywhere.

It's fairly common for the customer to request customized configuration. Or, the seller offering a customized variant to fulfill the customer's requirements.

The J-10B will NOT be limited to testing J-20 tech. If it were, there would be no reason to modify in the intake to DSI. Of course the J10B will be used as a stepping stone for the J-20, but it will certainly enter production. They are probably waiting for the WS-10A to be fully mature. Give it another year

No, the PLAAF has at least a 10 year and as much as a 20 year procurement gap in the modernization of its fleet. Even if we assume that the PLAAF wants to be a 5th generation air force, they'll need a mainstay fighter as they attempt to transition 5th generation fighters into its air force.

I think the news of J-XX is making many Chinese military fans a little over optimistic.

Of course the J-10b will be inducted in PLAAF. If sufficiently desperate the PLAAF might even induct large numbers of JF-17 to replace the large fleet of J-7 and J-8. Money guzzlers like fifth gen fighters are almost imipossible to maintain in large numbers and I think 4.5 gen fighters will dominate most air forces for the next 30 years or so.

huitong is not official by any means and he is just listing things that he had read. J-10B could be a testbed, but even if it is, it should still be joining service. J-10 should be around for some years. They clearly can't afford to build that many J-20 anytime soon, so upgrades to J-10 should continue.
