Re: 2014 ISIS attack in Iraq: News, Views, Photos, Videos
Couple things I wanna say:
1. Obviously going into Iraq was the worst idea ever. However once you opened a can of cockroaches, don't just leave it there open...at least finish it before they reproduce...this is what's happening now. The legacies of Bush is still happening.
2. The American public is so divided about the war, and how the world condemns the US for such illegitimate acts have placed Washington even more on the pedestal and then pressing down on them with a giant stone. On one side you have anti-war movements and parents calling for their sons to come home, and on the other hand you have chicken hawks and a bunch of people who wants more troops in Iraq. By the time Washington learns it's not their war, it's way too late.
3. Obama making the move to withdraw all troops is essentially a commitment his administration promised earlier to pull out from a war US shouldn't and no longer want to be in. The war costed billions for essentially nothing and so it was entirely in American sovereign interests to withdraw from.
4. I won't be surprised if many intelligence communities predicted the fail of Iraq once the US pulls out, and it's literally turning into the next Somalia. Honestly I now just feel really bad for the Iraqi people above all else. We can be typing away what we think but they're the ones dealing with the violence in their daily lives.
5. Iraq turning into the wild west means now it's up to the geopolitical powers of the region, including all parties involved there, to resolve things their way. US honestly shouldn't go back in again because people there will only hate US forces exponentially more, even if US is only returning with brooms and mops to clean up after things. Finally, there's NO WAY for US to fix this ever. Analogy is no different from someone coming to help you repair your computer, but instead gives you Vista basic, no internet connections, no drivers, missing data, BSOD, corrupted files, then leave halfway. And now your computer is plagued with viruses. If the guy is saying he's gonna return to fix your computer, you probably will tell him to eff off and you rather deal with it yourself.
6. By now Iraq is too messed up, and strangely Afghanistan is doing better than Iraq. Either way, you guys are right that the US is now arming these people with advanced weaponry(some tools even more advanced than other first world armies) like how they armed the Mujahadeens back in the '80s. Sad to say, but Washington hasn't really learned a single thing from their previous experience.
7. Regardless of that, I won't be surprised if Obama permits air strikes or US SOF infiltrations to work inside Iraq to scuttle captured weaponry. Question now is who secures the Black Hawks first. The ISIS flying them out of the airbases or SOF SD them first?
8. Not gonna be surprised if elements of the Iraqi SOFs have switched sides into ISIS.
