HONG KONG — Hong Kong’s top leader warned President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday not to interfere in the Chinese territory’s internal affairs after he said he would “100%” free the imprisoned pro-democracy activist and tycoon Jimmy Lai.

Asked last month whether he could get Lai out of China, Trump told conservative podcast host Hugh Hewitt, “100%, I’ll get him out” and said it would be “so easy.”

News is a week old.

Reporter writes nothing but state department propaganda yet is allowed to operate in Hong Kong. They need to have these people cleaned up, aggressively.

Trump is a con man, he cannot just say things and it happens like he wants it to. Often times, his actions don’t work out but his supports eat it up with a shit eating grin completely oblivious to the truth in front of them. The silly part, is how often people eat his crap up and think nothing of it, it’s like his presence destroys common sense

This was a promise that Trump made at an interview right before the election with Hugh Hewitt. I'm almost sure Trump had no idea who they were talking about. But he knew that that was the correct time to make all the promises he could make and write all the checks he'd never have to cash because he stands everything to gain and nothing to lose.

If anyone would explain that to him later after he comes into office that he'd have to get this guy out, he'd probably say he promised he could get a guy named Jimmy Lai out of China. There's probably tens of thousands of people surnamed Lai in China and it'd be "so easy" to get one of them to adopt the English name Jimmy for a greencard.

Chris Tang mention that the government may appeal the sentences. I was expecting 2-3 years more for each defendant based on the sentencing guild-lines of that NSL. Leaders should of been 20 years with time taken off for guilty pleads etc ~ 14 years. Other conspirators at 10 years with time taken off for guilty pleads for about 7 years.

People can seek refugee status for political prosecution or BNI in the west if they don't want to mend their ways when they get out. All the western anti-china groups are already filled with sexual predators and seem to only take youngish ladies into the fold, so these people likely won't easily have direct political power

The line between those two is very thin, and only obvious in hindsight. Oftentimes if it works it was brave, if it doesn't it was delusion.
Not thin at all, bravery is doing something knowing the dangers, delusion is falsely believing there was no danger, you tell the difference by their reaction after seeing danger, and his reaction was instant and total capitulation.

You cannot read someone's mind to know their thoughts. The fact that he was jailed once and continued his activities after being released is evidence against your claim. Doesn't mean he should not be jailed again, but it does mean that he had some courage to do it.

Hindsight works because you already know the results. What someone believes in their mind at the moment? Only they know.

Believing he'll be released by corrupt judges after jailing was the delusion
The fact that he sought refuge at US consulate immediately after finding out about NSL shows just how much he actually cares about going to jail for real.
It's not hard to tell what someone's thinking, you just need to look at their actions.
The fact that the entire HK movement died overnight after NSL is conclusive demonstration of just how much bravery there is in their entire group.

What are you talking about judges for? He was released already, which is why he's being sentenced to more jail now.

Actions which continued after the NSL was passed in June 2020. It is not an ex post facto law. The reason 45 criminals, including Joshua Wong, are being sentenced today is because they continued their activities afterwards. Their unofficial primary was conducted in July 2020. If they had quit immediately, they would not be prosecuted. The point was not to be petty and vindictive, like so many netizens want. The point was to restore law and order.
