Some forum members are pretending to be Chinese. Just ignore them.

People in China aren’t stupid. No one who are doing reasonably well are willing to rock the boat.
I don't know about that. I personally know these types, including a high school friend. What drives these types is not desperation, it is greed. Yeah they can just be a regular person and live reasonably well with some fun. But their personality prevents them from this. They cannot have fun with what they have. The only thing fun for them is power and control over other humans. They want this power and control, not for serving the public, but for ambition. They cloud their motives in lofty words, but I know these types are control freaks and the mask comes off when they're put in uncomfortable situations where they don't have full control. I slowly reduced my contact with my high school friend because within the past 3-4 years he has become insufferably extreme.

Sounds like factions (which are sure to exist) within Chinese political and social elites who can be broadly defined as "pro-west kleptos" wish to make China into a client state of the west similar to India today. With these people holding the positions which represent the interest of the west and their corporate/financial rulers. Basically sell your brothers and sisters for a second class spot in the high table/country club. Not too different to how India has operated for many decades now, leeching off common people and kicking them further down

Of course, people's personalities can't be controlled. What can be controlled though, is what kind of people should be allowed to ascend the political ladder.

That's why the poverty alleviation program was a smart move by Xi. Putting economics, and society benefits aside for a moment, Xi's brilliance is with finding a way to integrate politics into it.

Basically, you send everyone to go to poor regions, and you select your future generational political leaders from the most outstanding cadres. How long do you think these ambitious and power hungry people can last working in the fields with almost non-existent modern conveniences

Imagine dragging a modern person from his apartment in Beijing and sending him to a random mountain village all of a sudden lol

Even the most cunning person, won't last long. They might last a few weeks, even a few months, but eventually they will crack and their mask will fall through. In the end, the remaining cadres who successfully passed this stage, you can be almost certain that each one of them, really wants to serve the people.

Why do mainland Chinese tourists
Please, Log in or Register to view URLs content!

  • Visitors no longer crossing border simply to shop in same numbers as before, with some choosing instead to travel closer to home
“Even though Hong Kong is closer, it has become less and less worth the trip.”

While mainland tourists have begun reappearing, mainlanders seem to have changed in some ways. As shoppers, they have become used to browsing online and buying luxury goods at home. When eating out, they expect Hong Kong service staff to speak Mandarin.

“Hong Kong no longer has the charm it used to have.”

If they can go to Hainan to shop, tell me why they need to come to Hong Kong?
