What’s the point in even carrying guns if that is the case?
If they are issued with guns, then they would be allowed to use them, and there could be no more clear cut reason to use deadly force than what happened here.
It is a training issue because he should not even be thinking in that situation, because as we can see here, there is no time to think. As soon as he recognised a deadly threat, he should be going straight into autopilot mode of draw, aim, shoot and reload. Ready to shoot some more if and when needed.
That’s the second and less serious of his screw ups, because he should have been watching his partner’s back and should have instantly been on alert as soon as anyone stepped within arms reach of his partner.
His hand should have been on his holstered gun as soon as that terrorist stopped so close to them, and he should have given verbal warning for the terrorist to step back. That would have alerted his partner and also shown up the terrorist’s violent intentions before he launched his surprise attack.
Had he done that, his partner would have been on guard, and he would have had clear reason to draw and shoot as soon as the guy lunged forwards and dropped him before he managed to do any harm to himself or his partner.
As I said, they need massively improved training to deal with terrorist.
