For anyone who wants to see this protest go down, now it's your happy day. Gangs of anti-OC protestors are appearing at each sites bashing, vandalizing, sexually harassing, attacking the protestors. The police are using minimal effort in controlling the situation and not making many arrests. All the attacks are initiated by the anti-OC.

Some said these are organized by the government and the police knew of it. Regardless, now I am entirely disappointed by the HKSAR and HKPF because they had resorted to thuggish methods to treating high school students and this group of peaceful people.

One anti-OC basher even said to the females "being at the protest you should've prepared yourself to be sexually harassed"

i wouldnt be so quick to jump to conclusions. if i were a business owner in HK, i'd probably support the movement, just not in my front yard lol. students dont appreciate the importance of making money and feeding kids as much, so it is natural that these kinds of misunderstandings happen.

I wonder if there is a squre in in HK anywhere like Tiananmen square or Maidan, maybe the students can just camp out ther.

Here are the photos...

There has been zero news on Xinhua, english.news.cn. about the demonstrations in Hong Kong..NONE!

These photos I found on Yahoo and the San Diego Union Tribune. In my opinion these photos represent the hostility everyone involved that is occurring in Hong Kong.
None? I'm not sure what you're talking about. I just checked and it is right there on the front page of

The news has also been on mainland Chinese media for at least a few days, yes they're focused on criticizing the protests or reiterating official standpoints, but they're there.

Hong Kong protests: the pro-Beijing fightback beginsAn anti-Occupy demonstrator shouts at democracy protesters in Mongkok, 3 October 2014.

Violent scuffles broke out between pro-democracy protesters and Beijing loyalists on the streets of Hong Kong today.

I was up in Mongkok this afternoon at the Argyll and Nathan Road intersection, where 2-300 pro-democracy activists were surrounded by more than a thousand, frequently aggressive opponents angry at the ongoing disruption caused by the ongoing protests.

The police were completely outmatched. On Sunday they were able to field hundreds of riot police to tear gas and pepper spray democracy protesters, but the aggressive pro-Beijingers in Mongkok were held back by around 50 officers in standard uniforms. Despite repeated attempts to rush police cordons by the anti-Occupy groups, the police did not deploy riot control measures.

There is clearly a backlash against the Occupy Central and student led democracy movement and it's fair to say it doesn't have universal support among Hong Kongers, many of whom are tired of the disruption.

However democracy protesters believe today's well coordinated attacks could not simply have been coincidence or an organic backlash to their movement. They believe it was organised and calculated.

And that will have repercussion over the coming days as stances on both sides of the divide harden.

OC camp just committed another error by postponing talks

I think their reaction to provocations from the anti-OC camp demonstrates a lack of maturity and clear conception of their objective. OC camp's leadership is simply reacting to events and not really applying positive control of the situation, in military terms it is called "losing initiative". I don't think HKSAR or CCP was behind this surge of anti-OC movements, but if they were it is a good move because it has achieved its intended objective.

by walking away from negotiation the protesters have afforded its opponents of labeling them as the irrational party. the very existence of anti-OC movement should alarm the protest's organizers of how small the window of opportunity is for them to strike a deal with Leung CY. Postponement of negotiations also indicated to the public the likelihood of a stalemate, to which it would not react favourably. the longer they stick around awaiting such deal, the more powerful these anti-OC movements will become. now that the OC camp refuses to talk (and it demanded to talk in the first place), Leung can simply sit back and proclaim that he has done his due diligence to engage, and will thus be immune to criticism of inaction. this allows him to comfortably wait for the OC-camp to either escalate for which they will also take the blame, or run out of steam.

this is civil disobedience 101: never pull out of a negotiation, if you dont want to talk, chalk up your bargain, stay in it even if nominally.

I see that the kids are blocking the Nathan/Argyll interchange. I guessed as much. As well as a major junction its also a metro station, so again people trying to get to work/home are going to be badly inconvenienced.
Is Mong Kok metro station open and operating normally?

Looking at the photos, there is no doubt that these are just very peed off locals and small businessmen losing patience at seeing their livelihoods going belly up on account of a bunch of spoilt kids who have no real notion of the trouble they are causing them.

Actually the big bald bloke in the 1st photo looks just like my brother in law.....

Exactly, the working locals have run out patience with student occupiers. Any more disruptions could potentially cause small business owners in those affected areas to go belly up. Retailers have already lost sales from lack of tourists during golden week.

Although, I doubt student protesters would pool their allowance money together for some kind of compensation for affected small businesses.

the shop owners should get together and sue the parents of the prominent student leaders for financial compensation.

The theory is that capitalists will use every good opportunity to make money. But is has been notorious for many years, already in the colonial period, that HK with many large ship owners didn't have financing for ship building. For that the ship owners had to go to places NY or London. So how necessary is HK to anyone outside HK?
