Interesting takes by Yankee on what might be China's 6th-gen fighter:
Sounds like he's reciting a poem, lol...
Roughly translated from Yankee's words:
"Flies rather fast and is stealthy"
"Takeoff weight at several tens of tons"
"(Max?) Range can reach/surpass 10000 lis (I think kilometers?)"(??!!)
"The weapons bay is very big and very deep"
Roughly translated from horobeyo's post:
"With dual heavy-duty engines (and) an enlarged structure, which will double the fuel (load), (hence) the range will exceed 6000 kilometers. If (the plane) uses WS-15s, you can even have no afterburner(??)."
Can someone with better understandings verify on the information? Or the link to the video itself?
Also, I highly doubt Yankee is talking about the H-20, since the H-20 has been widely expected to have 4 engines instead of just 2.
Or - Could he be actually talking about JH-XX instead? With what looks like a book with the cover of H-6K bomber in front of him, per se.
Additional info by @horobeyo:
Roughly translated:
"Assume that a dual-engine stealth fighter-bomber with an empty weight of 22 tons, internal fuel of 20 tons, with a maximum weapon payload of 14 tons, a maximum take-off weight of 50-55 tons, and a range of 6,000 kilometers can be produced - The JH-XX can take-off from the non-coastal regions with deep strategic depth (buffer?) such as Jiangxi or Anhui in mainland China to strike Guam."
Seems like Yankee is refering to the JH-XX. Dear moderators, kindly move the discussion to the H-20/JH-XX thread.
Several comments of my own based on what I've noticed so far:
1. The JH-XX sounds a larger counterpart to the FB-22 of the USAF, which was developed based on the F-22 Raptor before being cancelled in 2006.
Also, I'm not sure if the speculated 14-ton payload capacity in stealth mode (i.e. entirety of the weapons carried inside the weapons bay) or in beast mode (i.e. weapons carried inside the weapons bay and underneath the wings).
For comparison, the FB-22 is to have a payload capacity of 6.8 tons in stealth mode, and 13.6 tons in beast mode.
2. Either way, with the JH-XX, I think that the H-20 would most likely have a payload capacity of at least 20 tons, judging by the widespread expectation of the H-20 being largely analogous to the B-2 Spirit.
3. @horobeyo speculated that the "万里" mentioned by Yankee could be referring to the Chinese miles (华里), which translates to 5000 kilometers of range (1 Chinese miles = 0.5 kilometers). Not sure where he get that 6000-kilometer figure from, though.
However, consider this - According to the
from January 2005 (around one year before project cancellation), the FB-22 (which is based on the F-22, with the F-22 actually smaller in size than the J-20, hence should naturally have lower ranges and combat radius as well) is to have a combat radius of ~1500 to ~1800 nautical miles, which translates to ~2700 to ~3300 kilometers. This certainly makes the overall range of the FB-22 to go way beyond 6000 kilometers (My own guess is somewhere between ~7000 and ~8000 kilometers).
Therefore, I don't think that the JH-XX having only ~6000 kilometers of range is realistic, considering that the JH-XX (which is already expected to be considerably larger in size than the J-20) is most likely to utilize two WS-15 engines with super-cruise capabilities as well. Yankee could be referring to a range of 10000 kilometers, IMHO, though I can't be exactly sure...
So what do you guys think of this?
4. Can someone tell @hurin on Twitter that these stats are purely from @horobeyo himself (which I believe are largely speculative in-nature)?
Just in case someone choose to treat those stats as if they are official mentions by the PLAAF or SAC...
