Well, they almost count as destroyers at 6,000 tons (and certainly should if they were more heavily armed).

True that, their hull number starts with a "D" after all... It is just a French Navy (and Italian) thing

Still believe France made a mistake with going nuclear with that carrier

I don't know how they did their feasibility studies but a single unit does not warrant nuclear power no ways it's economical

From a few hours of refuelling you go to a few years for refuelling which can only be done in home port not under way

For a single carrier they did not do well using nuclear power especially for that tonnage

Shame they scrapped that second carrier maybe they could have shared the cost build with Brazil

One thing they did get right was the CATOBAR design gives them fixed wing AWACS which gives them awareness and the ability to operate far and wide on their own

Sorry Asif but i think no mistake because 2 were planned from the beginning ( the second 1/3 less expensive ),
and use no new reactor but two K 15 use by Triomphant SSBN not very strong but less cheap so it is a bit underpowered, 27 kn max.

But can carry Rafale, E-2C Clemenceau class can't, more ammunition/fuel/log for the CAW 3900 T vs 2900 with in more as US CVN fuel for her escort, 1000 T.

In more armed with 32 Aster-15 and 2 Sadral ( 2 x 6 Mistral ).

He had some problems in the beginning but for several years it works fine.

Its reactors get one autonomy of 7,5 years, RCOH 1,5 years ofc with 2 always one operationnal this is ideal.

45000 full length carbines, 45000 short barrel all in 5.56x45mm conventional NAto spec not french stadars which are steel cased.
The French seem also to be debating dropping or expanding the 40x46mm under barrel grenade launchers.
top picks at this point are
  1. HK who will likely bring the HK416 which is already in French service.
  2. FNH who have both FN SCARL and F2000 the latter might have a issue though as it only comes in one length.
so unless they produce a shortened F2000 they could have issue.
  3. Beretta ARX 160 the Italian stallion
  4. IWI Tavor.
  5. Styer/Thales F90 a Updated AUG.

MBDA unveils a new Coastal Battery System based on the Exocet MM40 Block 3 anti-ship missile

Our colleagues from Army Recognition, who are currently covering the KADEX 2014 defence exhibition in Kazakhstan, have learned an exclusive naval news: MBDA unveiled for the first time a new mobile coastal battery based on the Exocet MM40 Block 3 anti-ship missile.
In the eighties, MBDA developed and produced mobile coastal batteries based on the previous generations of Exocet anti-ship missiles (block 1 and block 2). Five years ago, MBDA introduced a new generation of Exocet missile, the block 3.

The new Exocet Block 3 Coastal Battery is composed of two main units:
- The firing unit
- The tactical and operation center

The firing unit consists in a semi-trailer that may launch four missiles. The tactical and operation center, is the control unit that will interact with the launcher. It can command and control up to four firing units.

Ouch! It's the feeling you get when someone with a shopping trolley scrapes your million dollar super car - in this case 100 million. :D
